UK CAA provisional November traffic figures are here. I was interested to look at how the Cork-London city pair has performed, as the Cityjet service beds down.

November 2015:
Cork-Heathrow: 29502 pax (+1.2% on last year)
Cork-Gatwick: 9759 pax (-3.2%)
Cork-Stansted: 24453 pax (-3.9%)
Cork-London City: 4887 pax

Total Cork-London in November 2015: 68601 pax (+6%)
Total Cork-London in November 2014: 64700 pax.

So the Cork-London market grew by just short of 4000 passengers. This can be down to multiple factors (including any capacity changes), but Cityjet stimulating demand is certainly likely to be one of the factors.

However... I think Cityjet operated about 72 ORK-LCY round trips in November (please correct me if I am wrong). That's 72 x 2 x 95 seats = 13680 seats, so (assuming the CAA provisional figures are correct) a load factor of 36%. I realise that November was only the second month of the Cityjet service, but I still find that a bit worrying. And the reported comments from Cityjet in recent weeks to the effect that "we're happy that we are getting leisure passengers but we need the support of business passengers" don't suggest that there is a high yield to compensate for the low load.

This would want to pick up soon...

There's a particularly rotten set of figures for Cardiff as well, coming in at around 25% LF.

It had a respectable October because of the rugby world cup, but that was naturally just a temporary boost.

It can't help that the airline is unknown in Cork otherwise, but it's not worth going overboard advertising a twice weekly service.

Because they need the additional political pressure on the US that announcing the route causes.

People are massively misunderstanding the purpose of this route.

LCY - ORK 5786 passengers for December according to CAA. About 40% load factor!

There is a market for 2 return flights per day in winter but not 3! Where else could city jet serve from Cork between morning and evening flights to LCY?

In summer, there are loads of options

Nice
An Italian destination south of Milan
Menorca
Ibiza
Sardinia as a risk

Winter is a whole different ballgame. Brussels is best of a bad lot, unless they could get some kind of a feed agreement at Franfurt or Zurich. Maybe there's enough demand for Faro that an aircraft that size could go there a few times a week in the winter. They may be as well off leaving the aircraft idle in the middle of the day.

There's no winter only destination from Cork that's not the Canary Islands. Either WX will park it in the afternoon , or not be here at all next winter. They must be running high losses.

Or do as FR do with Gatwick. One rotation per day with LCY based aircraft.

Or potentially operate a W with a Cork-based aircraft. Parking in LCY is pretty limited.

Yes, parking in LCY is limited and perhaps a w could work. I have spoken to a number of London based Corkonians and they all agree lcy ork is a fantastic service and they seem to be using it. I guess the trick is as much highlighting the option to Cork based people visiting London. It would be a crying shame if it is lost, however 60k 70k demand per annum is higher than ork edi etc.
