Cork Airport has warmly welcomed today’s decision by Norwegian to launch Cork’s first ever scheduled transatlantic services.
Norwegian has announced today that it plans to operate a direct Cork-Boston service from next May and that it also intends to launch a new Cork-New York service in 2017. A Cork-Barcelona service is also planned from May 2016.
The new routes will be operated under Norwegian’s Irish subsidiary Norwegian Air International (NAI) and form part of the airline’s plans for continued expansion in the UK and Ireland.

This is the best news for Cork airport EVER!!
It`s been a long time coming but perfect timing with oil prices at record lows, tourism from the US at record numbers with the strong dollar and record economic growth again in Ireland and the US.
The fact that Shannon is no longer part of the DAA may also be a factor here
Well done to all at Cork Airport!!!!
Evening Echo ? Cork to Boston flights will begin May 2016

Don't think many were expecting this, whoever was involved in persuading DY to launch Cork deserve massive credit as I expect it wasn't easy at all.
It also gives Cork a much wider platform for growth towards Europe and not forcing the daa to meet Ryanair demands for x,y or z in terms of fees to increase capacity to Europe.
Some interesting times ahead in this regard, some how I suspect Cork fee's may not become an issue anymore if DY were to start eating in FR routes to the Med and/or elsewhere in Europe.
There could be another carrier/route also in 2016!

Wow congrats Cork! It'll not be too bad, I found a site which made reference to the plane being configured with 12 Business Class seats and 145 Economy seats so I am assuming fuel stops will be reduced as a result!!
This is fantastic news! I'd expect to see more niche routes like this when a 737MAX comes out.

Aer Lingus S16 schedule
Seems to be a bit of a shake up in schedule regarding flight timings for next summer e.g AGP no longer a 6:50am or 7am departure FAO is now a 6am departure most days any reason for this and is the schedule for all routes finalised yet?

How is Cork going to sustain so many flights to Barcelona next year?
Even with holiday resorts nearby and with it being a departure port for cruises, I can't see how it can justify practically double the capacity on Paris.

Aer Lingus won't back down, as they will probably start code sharing with some Vueling routes from this major IAG hub.
Norwegian are looking for a not-too-long sector to a year-round destination where they already have a significant presence which the aircraft can do between Boston flights... Maybe they could have chosen Krakow?

Looking forward to seeing the Norwegian schedule.
I'm guessing something like:
ORK-BOS 6pm - 8pm
BOS-ORK 9:45pm - 8:45am
ORK-BCN 10:30am - 2pm
BCN-ORK 2:30pm - 4pm

I guess you will be right, although I wonder if it will be BCN-ORK-BOS-ORK-BCN, at least until New York comes on-line, they haven't said anything about 'basing' an aircraft at Cork, I don't think?

Hmm people seem to be confused. Cork is really the necessity in the middle, Norwegian want flights from BCN-BOS, but can't do it on a 737-800, that coupled with the flag of convience makes Cork a good stop. Why would they stop at SNN or DUB who already have a largely supplied BOS market?
Also the times are probably wrong there Charlie, the aircraft is based at either BCN or BOS and they will have the longer stops for crew change etc. Cork will only be a small stop on the middle maybe 40-60mins
