Ryan 2000, as you have now mentioned this meeting twice in 3 days , can you give us any insight as to who and what routes are involved?

Fact - A320 has a higher crosswind limit than a B737. (Or an ATR, for that matter).

KLM codeshare.

If the IAG takeover does become a reality, will the KLM codes shares on the ORK/AMS suffer. I can't imagine IAG would want to assist KLM take potential long haul passengers away from LHR and route them via AMS. Would there be a possible KLM overnighter ( in at 2130 and out next morning for 0600 ) so KLM could protect their connecting traffic ?

Cannot see 2 daily stand alone AMS service being viable long term. If connections are great enough KLM may arrive on the scene.

A330; I'd be inclined to agree, but lets not forget there is not much leverage to grow the ORK LHR route unless 321s are added, that's not to say that should IAG takeover, there would be a shake up in the competiting BA EI routes, in any mix here ORK could gain extra slots for LHR, negating the need for feed into KLM network.

However, on balance IAG may allow EI to work away as it does successfully, and allow it to serve profitable routes like AMS ORK, on balance inviting KLM into ORK may be a less favourable option, hence may allow the KL arrangement to stay in place. Who knows IAG might go after KL in time and take them into OneWorld!!!!

Talking continues

Talks took place last week with one of Europes big beasts about serving Cork. Whether it amounts to anything remains to be seen.

Ryan2000,
Should we take that to mean Lufthansa or KLM?

Bye bye Cork AMS.
The board have recommended the takeover.
It'll be the first to go.
KLM will then be "in like Flynn", with at least a daily Embraer, to protect connecting traffic.

You have to ask the question, if EI, as part of IAG, will simply 'let' KLM in to 'steal' connecting traffic? Even if they do, is this not a good thing? More airlines for ORK can only be a good thing. The danger would be if KL came in, EI retained current frequency and successfully drove them off the route in a short space of time. That is a situation to be avoided, I assume KL would have to pay 'full' charges and have limited marketing support, which would be unfortunate.

KL have already come to Belfast, it will be interesting to see their response at both DUB and ORK.

South and Central America I'd imagine. People under-estimate how many EI pax connect to destinations in those regions alone via AMS with KL.

For once on this thread could there be a sliver of optimism? Some of us actually are financially connected to this whole bid - and its really infuriating to read some uninformed comments like AMS would be gone? Do people really think IAG are in the business of cutting and inviting in the airlines they are seeking to compete with?? Business 101.

Cork will be fine as far as EI are concerned, for ffs Willie Walsh saw the potential in European ops from Cork. There's hope if you ever needed it.
