Actually, the comments were more interesting on a copy of the interview on an IT site called The Register.
They were mostly from Irish (Cork mostly) people but quite a few said either "why does a US company locate in place where there are no decent flights" or "if you locate in Cork you should know you'll have transport problems"
To be fair there were a lot of 'travelogue' items from people who had been to Cork and surroundings - and a lot about 'the drink' - ffs.

Arkefly for TUI Ireland program
Arkefly operated on AirExplore B734 as I understand it.

Seriously positive step with NYC service
JetBlue CEO David Barger has said he wants too see a non-stop Cork service when speaking about the airlines ties with Aer Lingus, there have been existing rumours the carrier is interested in its own Long-Haul services however this is some years off. The news has seriously upped hopes for a possible NYC service ex-Cork, let's just say management were busy on the phones today when informed of the article. Cork's Evening Echo reporting that hopes of a transatlantic service from Cork are increasing with much of the speculation focusing on Aerlingus.

Will be a great boost to Cork and all the US multinationals located there. The fact that Shannon is no longer part of the DAA will certainly encourage them to actively promote Cork as the gateway to Munster.
Hopefully a restoration of the Cork-Dublin service can`t be too far away too.

Much of the new found optimism about a Cork transatlantic service is based on the possibility of EI taking delivery of the A321 Neo. However if this happens it's likely to be towards the end of the decade. Not sure what other aircraft are likely to be available unless they source an extra 757 or two.

Frankly, given the population density no domestic flights in Ireland are commercially viable; and in the current funding climate with these alternative links there isn't a hope in hell of getting PSO money for DUB-CRK.

The Cork-Dublin route was NEVER a PSO route. It was a commercial service that up to a couple of years ago had 2 airlines offering 11 flights a day.
Companies in the Cork region have been calling for it`s return to avail of connecting flights via Dublin to its larger range of destinations and frequencies.

Cork Dublin is probably finished as an inter city route. However a feeder service for long haul flights to North America and the Middle East would be well supported as driving to Cork after a flight of this duration can be very tiring if not dangerous. A stand alone operation by Aer Lingus Regional without competition from Ryanair is worth a try.

Trans Atlantic flights from Cork? A pipe dream surely! Pressure from business and other airlines means nothing. Aer Lingus will only operate the route if they think it will make money.

Aer Lingus will not be flying T/A from Cork anytime soon. B757 are being got to make SNN services viable which proves they arr still weak.
Not many operators will look at Cork eithe. EI is only option.
UA wont conaider it as BFS is still up aginst Dublin and the same can be applyed to ORK with SNN service.
DL can only sustain a seasonal SNN service so wont hold much hope for a year round service from ORK.
AA not a chance and I expect a review of European rputes once US merger happens. If BRU isnt viable the how will Cork be

The only benefit of Dublin is pre-clearance to the US. However, in the wider scheme of things, Dublin's range of long haul services is quite small - with the connections Cork already has, I don't think there is much need to set up a route to connect through Dublin.

It might suit Aerlingus as they could possibly gain business passengers from LHR and AMS. It would be in keeping with their hub and spoke strategy that has seen EIR feed traffic from the UK provincial cities through Dublin. From what I hear, management in Cork have not given up on the route.
