Wow, all good news for Cork in 2010. The Celtic Tiger was a sleepin in 2009 but with the increased schedules and new destinations, it looks like 2010 will be a lot better for Cork Airport!! It will of course remain the 2nd busiest airport in the Republic and easily the third busiest airport in Ireland

it looks like 2010 will be a lot better for Cork Airport!!
Today was certainly a good news day for Cork
But as it stands, 2010 will be worse than 2009 if comparing capacity for Summer 2010 with Summer 2009:

Aer Arann - little increase (Belfast reduced, Nantes cut, Lorient cut)
Aer Lingus - small increase (Heathrow reduced, Gatwick announced, shorter sectors)
Air Southwest - insignificant
Bmibaby - decrease
Jet2.com - small decrease
Ryanair - huge decrease
Wizz Air - small increase

Ryanair's huge decrease outweighs all the other increases.
Of course if the rumoured Ryanair expansion plans for Cork were correct, then this is indeed going to be a fantastic boost for Cork, but right this minute we're looking at another miserable year dispite good news of the RE/EI front...

I assume that as part of the deal, the Aer Lingus Regional flights will now be handled by Aer Lingus. Does this mean that they will be handling all Aer Arann flights in future?

Surely Ryanair would look at relaunching Cork-Prestwick now that Aer Lingus are on ORK-GLA?

Was it not the 6th for quite a while ?

I booked on that flight on the 18th.

What is all this XXXXXXXXXXXXX about? Hardly kisses from MO'L? Might be a Glasgow kiss, of course! Better tell the CAA boyos to wear their hards just in case - it might be a bruiser!

Tell us where and we will all go for a gawk. Reporting live for PPRuNe FM is Mr Leo Hairy Camel!

Get Charlie Bird back from Washington too!

Suspect its more DAA//CAA/Govt policy bashing annoucing that FR are reducing frequency on STN/DUB because of govt tax etc. (notwithstanding that tax not paid on ORK-DUB sector)

FR seem to be downgrading services in Ireland realising that Irish market no longer offers any propects of real growth and better to focus on expansion in Europe.

...are they getting some of the 'Summer Sun' flights??

Can't see why he is going into Cork to compete on the same routes as Aer Lingus (if that is the rumour) as I presume he has to pay 'full airport charges' in that case. I thought he was singing the praises fo the ' low-cost airports who are offerring him FREE deals etc' and here is is willing to pay full prices.!!!!

I'm very serious about it. Other airlines are scared to come into Cork, having seen what Ryanair did to Easyjet on the LGW route and what they were doing to Aer Arann on the Dublin route. Plus considering how they are holding SNN to ransom, I would be delighted to see the back of O'Leary and his shower. It's bad enough what the DAA are doing to Cork, we don't need O'Leary as well.

Dear oh dear.

Nobody can hold a business to ransom unless they wish them to allow it happen.

With FR its business not personal so why try and make it like it is.

That's plain nonsense, of course it's personal for O'Leary. O'Leary is like a strutting cock when it comes to the aviation business in Ireland, pouncing on anyone who gets in his way. HE is the one holding not only the airports, but the Irish people, to ransom, whether it is

- trying to drive Aer Arann out of business
- driving Easyjet out of Cork
- driving Go out of Dublin
- holding SNN Airport to ransom
- trying to takeover Aer Lingus

If it's business, it is an extremely lowlife way to go about it. CAA should be allowed to turn to the likes of Ryanair "Thanks, but no thanks".
