Ryanair has anounced new routes from Liverpool they are Blatislava,Arreclife,las Palmas,Rzeszow,faro,Gran Canarea,Lanzarotee,
plus the Shannon flights from manchester

I wonder if servisair will withdraw the threat of job cuts 24 jobs out of 106 people,if not who knows as i hear the staff are being balloted for industrial action as you read this with walkout possible within 3 weeks,job cuts are in the name of proffit. Dont they realise no loaders no planes loaded.

exloadie - even without Ryanair's current fleet reduction at LPL the company is trying hard to get pax to travel without hold luggage. No hold luggage - no need for loaders. It's harsh but unfortunately true.

trust me the no hold baggage aint working still loads of pax paying to put bags in hold.Dont bet against Ryanair placing at least another a/c into LPL

I wouldn't worry about trying to guess if a new a/c will go into the base, when it does they will announce the usual gumph about massive investment and employment

I thought that when Ryanair announced some route reductions earlier in the year at Liverpool, that they also said that Liverpool would suffer further reductions this winter, looks like they've had a change of mind, and given that Manchester has lost Shannon services to Liverpool and no new routes in the latest round of announcements, has Manchester expansion been given the elbow.

Mouser if the apron staff at LPL walk out you never know you could get all the LPL traffic over at MAN on a permanent basis.

Shannon Manchester move to LPL

Something tells me that Ryanairs planned move of the Shannon/Manchester service to Liverpool is part of something bigger. I have a gut feeling that Ryanair is going to choose Manchester airport as next base and the bargaining tool is Liverpool, Ryanair may be saying to Manchester Airport our choice is launch loads of new routes from Liverpool or go into Manchester on a good deal?

Easyjet have huge future aspirations at Manchester and wont grow as fast as perhaps MAN airport management want? Bmibaby is uncertain in that LH has no interest in it?

There has to be something significant going on here and Shannon Manchester is a gesture for Management at MAN?

Any thoughts?

Isnt FR trying to get passengers to load their own bags?

Any strike by Servisair is playing right into their hands and giving them a hands on trial run.

That would be a good idea however the company have to actually PUT the bag into the hold - the passengers just carry it to the steps of the aircraft. Also, AFAIK, Servisair provide their stairs for the rear, loading and unloading of BOB products, dispatchers and also push back.

If this is the case then the plane probably won't be going anywhere!

There was a similar situation a couple of years ago, and LJLA management and personel from other Peel Airports came in to help. In addition, Ryanair bought there own staff, including management, ocer from Dublin and Stansted to load aircraft and position steps etc.

rapidman47; how wonderfully observant you are. Yes I was wrong. Happy to admit it, though I am still confident that Ryanair are courting a future with Manchester airport and it will be on their terms.

I doubt it, only PMI, FAO and AGP will be operated at high frequency by FR from LBA (4, 4 and 6 per week respectively), the rest a mere 2 or 3 weekly frequency. Most routes in competition only put capacity back out of LBA that has already been cut either in S09 and furthermore in S10 (AGP, PMI, FAO and PSA for immediate examples) to develop yields in challenging times. There will be some downward yield pressure for LS ex LBA (maybe to a smaller extent out of MAN) to be sure, but this will probably only hasten LS's continued move into the longer haul and non EU markets and an increase in selling seats to tour operators (something Dart made no secret of in its end of year trading statement), both of which LS has plenty of market capture to go at LBA against its more developed counterpart airports. I see plenty of room for both carriers.

Not everyone at MAN as there are multiple companies there.... but I'm sure you already read this on the MAN thread.

But anyway, as Ametyst2 has already posted, in previous events of this nature, wherever they have happened, some sort of contingency plan has been put into operation to minimise disruption.

We'll have to see what happens.
