The police were mingling a lot with the crowd and talking to teenagers / "hoodies" who were obviously asking lots of questions when I saw them. Not flown from LCY for a while so can't comment on that side of stuff.

The queue to get in didn't take too long to get through, in comparison to the queue for attractions etc!

The police think they are above people. I was travelling through LCY last year and being young and not dressed in a suit but in Jeans and T-Shirt (not like typical LCY pax) the officer at the top of the escalator said "this area is for departing passengers only" I said "Yes, thank you" and carried on walking.
I agree completely. I have frequently observed the coppers at Canary Wharf Underground, with a team of PCSOs stopping and searching people under the Terrorism Act, presumably searching for explosives considering they have dogs. In the time I have seen them doing this they have never stopped me as I wear a suit or anyone else wearing one, they always stop ordinary non Asian people, blacks whites etc. I have never seen a Pakistani / Afghani looking person stopped yet. That would be profiling......really I'm NOT exaggerating. Oddly enough, the one day I was out of my suit on a weekday at the Wharf station, I nearly got pulled over!

What are a team of PCSOs gonna do against the real threat? Nothing. What are two plods with guns gonna do when someone at check in blows themselves up? Nothing.
Now the latter is *VERY* unlikely, so I'm not being alarmist. Just tired of being glared at as if I am a terrorist by the most ineffective deterrent ever....

For what it is worth the present 'Threat Level' is SEVERE as defined by the MATRA (multi agency threat & risk agencies). Today sadly would be even a greater risk as the copy cats tend to use aniversarys. Are we not going off the subject a bit. That you describe in respect of the Police is mirrored at LHR, many standing around and lots of carriers usually parked for hours on double yellow lines while PC's lounge in the canteen.

BACF increase FRA frequency

BACF will add an additional daily frequency between LCY and FRA.

According to BA.com, The flight times as follows:

BA8738 LCY FRA 11:35 14:15
BA8737 FRA LCY 15:05 15:45

Also there are a few retimed flights. The ones below are flights with changes over 20 mins:

BA8763 LCY/ZRH, Will depart at 08:55 instead of 08:10
BA8451 LCY/AMS, Will depart at 08:10 instead of 08:55
BA8475 LCY/NCE, Will depart at 10:50 instead of 10:30
BA8704 LCY/EDI, Will no longer operate Mon-Fri.
BA8706 LCY/EDI, Will depart at 16:20 instead of 16:00
BA8730 LCY/GLA, Will depart at 20:30 instead of 19:20

I know the DUB route is exceeding there initial expectations and WAW/BCN and NCE have all done better than expected this summer.

Does anyone heard any rumours about more new BACF routes this winter?

Lack of additional (suitable) aircraft is delaying further route expansion...

Given the fact that the 'scope clause' expires in the not-too-distant future, may also be adding to the headaches... Parking and slots at LCY too, make things even more tricky.

Lcy-man

Is there any chance that BACF may introduce a service on LCY-MAN?

personal feeling is that we might well start to see a fairly large increase in routes for BACF from LCY (depending on a/c becoming available/new a/c being purchased)

i also think that we might well see some non LCY routes for BACF sometime in the not too distant future! could well be a return to some regional flying for BA!

all my opinion!

but to answer the question i think that LCY-MAN could well happen in the not too distant future, also why not ABZ & NQY ?

Austrian Dropping VIE

Reported to be dropping the route from August citing slot times not matched to their demand. Surprised that 09.40 arrival doesn't work for them but perhaps the traffic is more LCY than VIE originating in which case the arrival in VIE at 13.25 isn't great.

how's HAM doing?

does anyone know how LH's LCY-HAM is doing? I'm surprised it's not packed considering that the tickets I usually get are about the same price I'd pay out of heathrow or gatwick.

I've taken this route on their atr42's five times over the last two months and it seems never more than half full. I've sat with 10 to 12 people on that plane more than once. I wonder if LH/contact air are satisfied with the route or if I should worry about my favorite little shortcut...

anyone know?

Went through one of the new gates today - Gate 23.

Two things of note:
1) it's a fair old walk
2) the departure gates are just as bad as the old ones, i.e. not big enough to fit everyone bound for a fully loaded 146, with nonsensical leather poufet chairs.

Still, nice and clean and bright with the big windows

The new gates are terrible for both passengers and staff. The layout is something else as well!

I haven't departed the new gates yet (maybe next week). But having a good look through the windows on Fun Day showed they appeared as spartan and undersized as the old gates. Which came as a surprise.

There seems an element of confusion airside that gates 1-10 increment westwards from the terminal while 21-24 increment eastwards from the same starting point. Any plans to renumber in a more logical sequence ?

New Gates

I've departed from one of the new stands, via the shortest bus ride I’ve ever had, but not from the gates yet. However due to the inevitable delay last night (Beyond Amateur LCY to EDI 1805 moved off the stand at 1955 by my watch) i used some of the time to walk down to about gate 23 for a nosey. the place is unbelievably clean looking, nice and white and fresh looking. Wonder what it'll look like in 2 years

And if they do renumber the stands, can we get rid of 2 a, b, c ? WTF?

So with the spare time, I fired up my laptop and browsed to see if there's any wireless internet... come on guys. This is a business orientated airport, an ADSL line a couple of wireless access points costs what £300 / year?

And as for the police. When I arrived in the morning and got on the DLR I glanced at the platform just as I sat down, young armed cop staring straight at me. (No, he wasn't point his gun at me)
i then realised he was actually staring at the young, but very snappily dressed, asian guy sitting next to me. Made me feel proud to be British

Why would it be good for BACF to do MAN-LCY when VLM already has a high frequency service on the route with an onboard service that is far superior to British Airways??

Bit of a downturn at the moment...

IOM with Euromanx gone
BHD with Cityjet gone
GRQ with VLM gone (okay, it was 1 stop...)
VIE with Austrian going next month
STR with Lufthansa going in October

Means that 9 pair of slots have/will become available. How are these being utilised?

In other news, effective winter schedule the early afternoon FRA service by Lufthansa will be operated by a Eurowings 146 instead of the Augsburg Airways Dash 8 that has been serving the route for many many years.

But on the other hand.

BA has added 5 destinations (effectively 4 when we dropped MXP) since last May and is expanding at NCE, FRA, ZRH, GLA and EDI.

AMS will go down to 3 rotations a day this winter season is my prediction. Kinda hoping for extra BCN/WAW flights.

Yep, I've heard we're adding a additional GLA freq. Don't know the times though and/or start date.
