They've just signed for rollers on their 787's. What was it they used to paint on the back of their jets? 4..............

I would be amazed if Virgin have ordered more A346s.

It is a aircraft type that has created more than its fair share of issues and problems when compared to its little sister the A343!

Sorry for intruding.....only an SLF and a PPL (30hrs) here.

I was under the impression that Virgin signed an engine deal with GE for there 787's?

I thought it was a combined deal to work with alternative fuel sources of the future.

Once again i apologise for intruding.

The new order is for a single A343 to be based at Gatwick from next year for operational support for the 744 fleet down there.

Is the A340 definitely going to be based at Gatwick or is that going into Heathrow to replace a 747-400 to move to Gatwick? They are downgrading some services ex LHR (VS3/4) down to Airbus this summer anyway, so am guessing that the 744 fleet will have some slack as a result.

The A340-300 is no longer in production I believe, with Finnair taking the last example last year. Is this wrong? Are they getting one of their old machines back?

There is still a backlog of 3 A340-300s, Finnair will be getting new builds in June, August and September this year.

Can anyone tell me what entertainment system are on the A343s. Is it still the old system where it goes in a loop with a limited number of films, or have they upgraded them to the same as the A346s. Where it is more a less a personal system.

According to another website, the A343 that is coming will be the one currently operated by Etihad. Not sure what config it will be in though for LGW or what entertainment it will have onboard when it joins VS.

The A343's currently have the Odyssey system installed which is tape based but G-VSUN is due for a re-fit this year to install UCS/PE/Econ seats and rumour says it will be having Vort installed at the same time too.

MarlboroLite -- Virgin's teamed with Boeing and GE to research biofuels (resulting in last month's babussu nut/coconut flight) but when they placed the 787 order in April last year, they said they had not yet decided who would do the engines (obviously they'd only be deciding between GE and RR). Branson said the offers and energy/emissions savings from GE and RR were practically the same, which begs the question why RR and whether there might've been some political pressure or him to go British....

New:Los Angeles, International (LAX) to London, Gatwick (LGW)

Any idea of frequency and start date?

Where did that come from!? Are you sure!?

And are they just switching the origin of the two routes, or is there going to be both LAX - LHR and LGW, and LAS to both LHR and LGW?

I very much doubt they would move LAX from LHR to LGW

That site has a lot of innaccuracies in it. Take it with a big pinch of salt

The news led Virgin Atlantic, one of the biggest European customers for the plane, to open talks with the American aerospace giant. This could lead to Boeing lending 777 aircraft to the carrier to tide it over until the 787s can be delivered, or replacing some of the 787s on order with the older model. This would be in addition to millions in fines for late delivery.

Steve Ridgway, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic, said: "There are provisions around this in the contracts. We are talking to them about what to do to bridge us through until we get the 787. The 777 is the nearest thing to the 787, that's what we're talking about."

Virgin GLA Routes to Expand

We are hearing VAA are going to expand routes/service at GLA next year
talk of East & West coast USA.

Also that the may take Emirates on their route?

GLA Sales are great this year to MCO hardly a seat left ,it would make scense but the airport need to get its act together with stands.

Anyone shed any light on next year schedules

Would be surprised to see GLA get massive expansion before an a/c is even based at the airport!

Would more expect MAN to get some of the A340s after the 787s start to arrive at LHR.

vs672 30/05/08 ?

VS672 NBO - > LHR has been canceled for the 30th May. So we have a day to explore Nairobi.

However Virgin's UK call center can't say why the flight is canceled - can one of you satisfy my curiosity?

Memetic

Answering my own question, it was, so I am told, due to strike action in France causing late delivery of the aircraft due to be used on the route.

I believe it is due to one of the A340-300 being delayed in its cabin refit due to issues with the contractor carrying out the work in TLS. Hence some reshuffling of a/c.

Cheers
