Perhaps before Bournemouth venture into the world of 'real airports' they should invest some money in staff training!

The airport has been closed for the last 30 minutes or so because there is only 1 person who can put low-viz procedures into effect and take RVR readings, there has been a RYR holding for 10-15 minutes and a EZS just about to join him, is Bournemouth going to pick up the extra fuel costs???

Anyone know what days/times the newspaper/mail flights to the Channel Islands run?

Jersey by Atlantic L188 (NPT543/544)
Guernsey by Atlantic ATP (NPT531/532)

Also any other cargo/mails? (I know about the Titan EMA run)

Cheers

Change of contract?

If Jet 2 ( Channel Express ) B737 returns to Bournemouth for Sat and Sun, the paper contract to Jersey at the moment is from Stansted so will this change? and transfered to Bournemouth, so will Jet 2 be operating other flights from Bournemouth from February?
Interesting times ahead if this does happen?

Jet2

last time they tried pax flights from BOH it was to Belfast INTL and although load factors were not terrible (80% in Aug 2005) the yeild was probably lowish. I think that a 4 weekly service by easyJet would work. The market is around 55-65,000 pax per year and a big name is required to tempt people from flyBe down the road.
Maybe Jet2 wanna try a different route or two? Will be a welcome return if they do...

Having just posted earlier about the increase in holiday flights from Bournemouth Airport it looks like its all change for the worse !!

Along with the decrease of one aircraft from Thomsonfly from next summer and with the loss of Air Berlin and several Ryanair routes we have the news that Thomas Cook and Airtours wont be operating next summer after 12 years of holidays from Bournemouth resulting in the loss of a Palma service by Iberworld and Futura , Heraklion by Eurocypria and Bodrum by Pegasus .

As well as this it looks like Libra are not operating to Larnaca from next summer as Bournemouth has been withdrawn from the booking engine for a considerable time now . Again after 9 years of operating from Bournemouth with full loads this seems really unusual decision to make ?

With the terminal being re built and extended this winter it could be quieter 2008 than was first thought . Lets hope that Easyjet and Ryanair make some positive decisions early next year regarding Bournemouth as a base or at least add to there route network where Thomsonfly have left off and let Bournemouth down to some extent , especially the decision to pull off the Alicante route ! also Amsterdam , Prague , Paris , Valencia and Pisa

A rather disappointing end to the year for Bournemouth but who knows what will happen in 2008 !!

As far as Libra goes they nearly went bust earlier this year and are cutting a lot of capacity next summer as part of their restructuring

Don't hold your breath for the terminal being built 'this winter'. As there is no airline imminently basing extra aircraft at Bournemouth then the time frame for building a terminal etc has been stretched.Looks at the moment that pax figures will be down in 2008 against all previous hopes, rumours and expectations.

well, work has already started on the new arrivals and departures 'frontage'. they are also building more car-parking spaces and have put construction barracades up all over the place. There are cranes everywhere and the apron is being extended. So all in all, despite the losses of routes the terminal improvements will go ahead. easyJet and Ryanair will plug the gaps if they know whats good for them. Have no fear. What gets me is the poor marketing of these routes... some people dont even know Bournemouth HAS an airport.

Don't get too depressed about chopped routes and charters, read the business press! The retrenchment by the all inclusive charter operators is happening everywhere. The market is changing to favour the niche operators and the LCCs. The big charter boys are consolidating and slimming. Selling holidays to the masses is a business from the past. Bespoke is more the way to go these days.

I still hold by my prediction for 2008 (see earlier posts) that BOH will see more pax in 2008 than in 2007.

Am quite certain that new routes will emerge from RYR and EZY, perhaps others. The LCCs are growing at a huge rate and want to sustain that growth. A lack of runway slots elsewhere will help to drive their growth at BOH and others (BRS, CWL, even Manston etc....) away from BAA airports in the south that do not have the available runway capacity.

There are not 'cranes everywhere'. It's true that hoardings are up and a lot of the old huts have been cleared but look carefully next time. The old shell building is still in use in the middle of the new arrivals hall site, no construction work has happened since early november, the only work going on is some minor tidying up etc. Car parking is being extended and soon the area that was the aviation museum will be turned into car park, not the original plan.
The next based aircraft from either Easyjet or Ryanair isn't due until next November. The airport thus has time to renegotiate building contracts to get a better deal for their money- so you won't see any building work until well towards next spring- not the optimistic plan that was published in the summer!

Tridekey.

Re the old Shell building. They have got a nice new shiney building in the middle of the long term overflow car park which they where refusing to move to.

The area that was the staff car park as been leveled and risen in height from the access rubble.

Come on dont be negative - it will happen.

Remember when we had 1 flight a day the Palmair. Its better than that now isnt it.

I understand the reason that Shell are revolting is that the manouevring area for their vehicles is not adequate. The three or four organisations based at the south east have been given a stay of execution for another three months and that includes the museum though whether this can be resurrected remains to be seen.
The industry as a whole seems to be fairly volatile at the moment, however the new terminal is something Bournemouth has been crying out for years. No one knows what state the eoonomy will be in come the end of 2008 if you believe the press we are all doomed, but the likes of RYR, EZY and our own local lc Jet2 are here for the long haul ( excuse the pun).

Happy New Year

talking of long haul, it is Tui's aim to operate their long haul ops out of BOH during the strikes, its "fun" at the best of times with a 767 flight out of BOH, when we may have 2 or 3 that's when it will get interesting!!

Bournemouth long haul potential

Can anyone comment on the following:

New York 4 weekly (with conx to US domestic)
Barbados weekly
Orlando weekly
Toronto weekly
Dubai 3 weekly (with conx to Aus and Asia)
Bermuda weekly

I want to know market potential, and appropriate aircraft type - opinions are fine but I want serious responses. I know 'Bournemouth' would be strange from an inbound point of view unless (Southampton &/or South Coast) is placed in brakets after the destination name.

Bath Travel could probably fill the Barbados and Orlando services - would JPMorgan contribute to the New York capacity in any way?
