ryanair+america=interesting
I know it wont happen for a while But if Ryanair or another low cost Airline decide to start Transatlantic services the the big boys will have something to worry about
and they wont win the fight, people will use the lowcost Airlines even in business just like they are using AirAsia.

No, he's chasing Joe Blow Jobs. But he's been talking hot air on this for ages - it makes much more sense for FR to keep heading east than it does for them to jump the puddle. If they do, maybe a few niche routes using the existing fleet - think DUB-BOS is doable in a 738, sure someone technical could elaborate if they haven't already done so elsewhere on numerous occassions!

Check your map mate - last time I looked LHR was directly west of London, not south of it.
Leisure traffic - the traffic you interviewed on your last flight - is not the traffic that keeps transatlantic airlines in business.
Plus, where people live is not the major factor for airport choice, a bigger influence is where businesses are located.
Airport and business location for decades have gone hand in hand - hence why the west of London and the M4 area around Maidenhead, Reading etc where the UK offices of numerous multinational corporations are located.
Just as you express frustration at driving to Heathrow - likewise inbound business passengers would be frustrated at arriving in to STN and then driving past LHR to get to their company's UK office.
Foreign airlines will ALWAYS want LHR first, if that is not possible they settle with LGW.
The only way for STN to see big expansion other than from FR or EZY is if the (virtually) impossible happens.
1 - BA move in (like they did at LCY)
or
2 - an entire alliance ups sticks and moves to STN - say all the Star Alliance carriers move together.
If either of the above ever happens I will eat my own hair.

For those people saying AirAsia are moving to Gatwick, here is what I got back from AirAsia ... so looks like the move is NOT true.
AirAsia Hi Darren, we have no knowledge of a September move to Gatwick. If we did choose to change airports at any of its destinations worldwide, we will advise our Guests and general public via normal channels with suitable notice.
We are more than happy with our Stansted base and over the coming months/years
we will be working hard to expand our destinations from Stansted.
So NO move to GATWICK .

It is *very* common for the left hand and the right hand not to know what each other are doing. Aer Arann did the same denying they were pulling out of PIK until they moved to GLA.

It would be very short notice, if true and as yet nothing on their website .
This was talked about back in Feb on the Stansted thread and unless anything has changed this was the outcome.
When asked if the airline would be sending the new 332s to Gatwick...

Don't know how many years Stansted has been officially London's third airport but the truth is that without cross subsidies the airport is a failure. Strip out the Irish mob and what is left. Maybe a couple of million passengers a year once Easyjet has transferred some of its aircraft to the seaside and Air Berlin has moved south.

Air Asia
It’s no secret that Air Asia will move if the UK-Malaysia bilateral air service agreement allows them. I know that the bilateral has been looked at recently and I believe Gatwick Airport was in attendance. I don’t know what the outcome is and I have failed to find anything on line. Whoever knows the outcome of the negotiation knows where Air Asia will be flying to!

Just spoke to a mate who is high up in BAA ops and he hasn't heard anything
I can't explain why the airline are not saying anything, all I know is that a memo was issued to the handling agents staff on Friday last week stateing what I have already said, Air Asia will be leaving STN at the end of Sep and re-locating to LGW.
