Do we know where the four aircraft will be based? Looking at the schedule GLA appears to have two. Would this be correct? As for the other two?

I guess one is needed for the ABZ routes and one for EDI-LSI.

I can't see how Eastern's current route economics will fit into this. Users of the FlyBe website won't be expecting to see the sorts of fares Eastern charge come up?

Looks like 2 aircraft will be based at ABZ & GLA.

EDI and GLA will be operated by one of the ABZ aircraft. It will operate ABZ-LSI-GLA-LSI-EDI-LSI-ABZ.

Does anyone know if it will be 4 J41 or 4 S2000 aircraft that will be operating in BE livery?.

A low cost airline having an alliance with probably the worlds most expensive airline? It will be interesting watching how this pans out. Will the islanders be fleeced by Eastern? Flybe had a poor reputation on the western isles routes. God help them when Eastern start

I feel that business studies students are going to be writing essays about why this was obviously a bad idea from the start in a few years time. What next? Ryanair interlining with Lufthansa?

I just can't see the logic in this- both airlines are doing poorly with different business models. These routes are not a gold mine and unless you could remove the competition long term why would you try? Plus operating in some of the most inhospitable areas in the world.

Flybe need to examine every route and cut out those which are not profitable.

Eastern need to have a stable work force and operate niche routes which can support a high yield.

People saying these routes are not goldmines and this is a sure failure. I would love to know how you have access to the airline financial reports on these routes?

Remember, Flybe has been operating these routes for a very long time now with their to be former-partner Loganair. Flybe know how these routes preform and they must see value and reason to compete against LOG on these few selected routes.

Furthermore, have you people noticed how expensive these routes are? I've seen cheaper fares from GLA to NYC and even SYD than on domestic Scottish routes. Fares are far from cheap.

Pretty sure the way the franchise agreement works - Eastern are responsible for all costs including marketing of route - flybe is purely a virtual carrier in that regard and will display it and sell it as a branded flymaybe flight - they will cream x per ticket sold off of the website and the retention rate is x per pax until the coupon is flown.

You need to repaint your aircraft in my colours and if it fails - tuff! nothing to do with me.... Next!!

BMI tried EDI-SYY at one point, didn't they? And IIRC, not for very long?

They did, but I think to ABZ, in the heyday of the oil industry. There used to be a fabrication yard on Lewis.

bmi or bmir have never tried ABZ-SYY. It was EDI-SYY. Loganair have never tried ABZ-SYY - Eastern fly that route. Wonder if LOG fancy a crack at it. In the oil heyday I think going right back Air Ecosse might have had an ABZ-SYY route.

It was definitely Edinburgh, in I think 2002 (or it could have been 2003).

BA operated ABZ - SYY, albeit via INV, in the 80's with the budgie.

I did it several times, can't remember whether it came back the same way, later in the day, as we then did SYY - GLA - BEB - GLA and pos back to ABZ.

Wonderful to fly lowlevel along Loch Broom on a clear frosty morning!!

Wait until EA try to crew it. The commercial department there choose to ignore the physical fact you need flight crew. They think aircraft autopilots mean they don't need human nteraction.

The buzz word will be 'cancelled'.

Crewing

You're right there James T, they're advertising for crewing people, wouldn't surprise me if the original crewing staff have left given the way they're treated by their manager

Seems to be the same "logic" as putting the 400 on Heathrow routes.

Does anyone on here know the going rate to lease an Emb 170 these days? This has the sound of "how do you make a small fortune in aviation?" (start with a large fortune).
