I could see the E170/175 fitting in fairly well with the sorts of routes Eastern operate and this should allow them to fly longer/more popular routes while the high fares should help them turn a profit even if loads aren't too good.
A319 seems like 2 steps too far for who are basically a small regional airline unless they are planning some long oil related routes from ABZ. E190/195 again seems a little large for an airline like Eastern and lack the range of the A319 so would struggle with any 'oil routes' if they were even ever to happen.

OOooh - play nicely now!
I am very pleased that Rebak enjoys the job - good on him/her.
Sadly, most people don't - particularly those who have been there a while. I hope Rebak remains as chirpy when he/she has been there a few years and gets to the top of the increments. Once that happens and you get 'stuck' at T3, it doesn't buoy your spirits quite so much. If Rebak has been here for years and still enjoys it - great!
Also, if Rebak hasn't been there for a while, he/she hasn't experienced the erosion in pay and working conditions that has happened over the past 5 or 6 years. This has a very caustic, long-term and negative influence on people, as the good things that offset the lowish pay have now vanished.
I think people at T3 DO actually realise that they are fortunate to be in a flying job - it just gets wiped from their minds by the 475th idiotic roster change of that week...

Agree with your comments. I think that some departments are trying to be nice to crew. Maybe they've been told to try. It lasts for about......................................an hour.

Dear Rebak...
Hello Rebak, your post seems fairly emotional and lacks anylogic. I therefore assume that you’re young and new to the flying game. Hey I’vegot no problem with that. I used to feel the same. However as you wonder alongin life things seem to happen. Paying the Mortgage is a biggy followed bychildren etc. Your post would suggest that if Lakey paid you a fiver a day itwouldn’t matter you’d still keep flying, because flying an Aeroplane is a nicejob. Moving on in your assumption; given I’m not particularly happy withEastern I should leave or shut. Well it would almost be impossible to leave thevillage where I live at the moment and there are very few jobs out there - sotherefore I should shut up. So Rebak just explain to me why I should shut up.We live in a democracy and if I have an opinion then I’m free to express it. Thebottom line is. We should be paid the Market rate, receive cost of livingadjustments, and be treated with some respect by our Employer!

Not so long ago ... The volcanic ash crisis nearly pushed the company over the financial edge, a significant number of crew offered, without hesitation, to work a couple of days for free, in a bid to stave off the alternative. A gesture, which might not have made much difference to the balance sheet, but an honest bit of goodwill all the same.
In return, nothing, zilch, zero. If you bump into the owners be prepared for abrupt motivational greetings, you can almost smell the loathing - "I'm the man who pays your wages", "Don't loiter in the office, you make the place look untidy" and other such niceties.

Yes I am emotional as I feel strongly about people who simply do notappreciate how lucky they are to be in employment.
I'm not young anymore and have been flying well over 10 years. I have amortgage and kids. I live in a nice house, drive a nice car and have a job thatI enjoy going too. My Eastern salary and my partners (earns less than me) givesus all a very pleasant lifestyle.
Could it be better, well yes, of course it could. But believe me, it couldbe a whole lot worse.
My point about “shutting up” is simple – just think about the next time youare flapping your gums in the presence of other colleagues about how much youhate the Company or that you have no money because aren’t paid enough. Maybe, just maybe someone there actually enjoys their job and does not need to hearyou “bitch”.
If you want respect then how about you start earning it.

I don't fly for Eastern so am probably not qualified to make too much of a point but I wonder if they would even still exist or have lasted this long without such tight, matter of fact people in charge. Just a question .

Given the scale of disenchantment on here, I'm amazed Eastern are still in operation.
Then again, very few airlines seem to have a 100% satisfaction rate among its staff!

Hello Rebak
I have a Job. I’m not lucky to have a job.
I like working for Eastern in regards to the Job I do andmost of the people I work with. What I dislike is how poorly Operations, Crewing, and often Ground Services are managed. Some small changes in these areas wouldbring big results. The terms and conditions also need an overhaul.
And what does ‘if you want some respect earn it mean’? Thereis no intellect to that statement. It’s redundant. Such neurotic type commentsindicate that you just float along in a little Bubble oblivious to what’s goingon around you.

Wtf!
It looks like the wheels are falling off!
Chief pilot, safety manager, crewing manager and it sounds like the fleet managers have all quit too?
Good luck guys, it will either be much better or you will be looking for new jobs!
It couldn't go on like it was though.

I'm afraid you are destined, particularly in this environment, to be forever employed alongside the 'cup half empty' demographic. If experience has taught you anything its that pilots are eternally hard done by and always seeking the more verdant pastures.
I do agree though, life at Eastern can be tough. Hope the current set of circumstances settles down, maybe its the harbinger of better times.

Está servira para distraerle.
The CP before SJ was always a decent sort of chap but those were in the days of Jackie Stewart's J31 when there were men and then there were male pilots.
Crew resource management, or its board room equivalent, was something made much of by RL in the early days. A visit to each base once a month was the intention in order to keep crews in touch with head office and the head man in particular. Sounds as though that all went down the Swanee as the money came rolling in. Doesn't sound though as if it's any worse than any other small airline. It's just that the world downturn has continued for so long that everyone is taking a kicking for much longer than would normally be the case in the previous cyclical pilot supply market. One idea which worked wonderfully well years ago with another company in a land far away was when the pilots refused to fly anything other than full procedural for a week. The resultant increase in fuel costs and delays soon occasioned a round table conference. It took guts and glue but it paid off.
