I don't see easyJet seeing IOM as a filler far from it... generally they have a "first-wave" LGW departure to IOM and then an evening flight so if it was filling... it would be at odd times throughout the day, yeah it used to be but now they are being consistent with there operations, especially to LGW and LTN/BRS are being sold as leisure only not business.

easyJet aircraft have a minimum of 156 seats. The next largest aircraft to serve the island has only 72 seats. easyJet aircraft are simply to large to properly serve the Isle of Man.

They Operate 156 on LPL and some LGW/BRS with 180/186 on LGW and LTN, they average out about 130 booked during the summer dropping to average of 100 during Winter... which is fairly decent for U.K. Domestic by EZY

I'd agree, 70 seaters offering better frequencies are what the Island needs. The ATR is the ideal aircraft for the IOM as the operating costs are the lowest in class, it's reliable and has the correct capacity. You can offer good fares and decent frequency.

The airbus is lovely and of course a marginally more comfortable experience (but on a 20 min flight does it matter?) but few routes of the Island will support that capacity on anything other than a couple of flights a week which isn't ideal from a connectivity / economic point of view.

Flybe are providing additional capacity for the Isle of Man TT this year, in the form of 3 return BHD-IOM flights. These will be operated by a mix of Q400/E175. Watch this space, but great to see initiative. They could easily fill more aircraft from other bases not regularly flown to the Isle of Man, with a bit of advertising. There would easily be scope on Saturday afternoon / Sunday morning, when Flybe's aircraft aren't worked as hard.

Surely they're all being used for holiday flights from SOU and other airports.

Your average booked seats quote is redundant because other domestic services have 5, 6, 7 daily flights with easyJet, generally with direct competition in the form of several daily flights as well. Below are the weekly easyJet flights from IOM.

LPL 7 weekly
LGW 13 weekly
LTN 3 weekly
BRS 2 weekly

These frequencies do not serve the island well, especially given that most of the flights are during the late afternoon. easyJet's aircraft are too big for proper domestic services from the IOM. Ideally you'd want 3-4 daily to LGW, double daily to LPL and at least daily to LTN and BRS.

easyJet's scheduling proves that their aircraft are ill-equipped for IOM operations. The fact that services to all other destinations are served by either 70 seat aircraft, or 30 seat aircraft is testament that the IOM market is small. BA Cityflyer even lease a smaller plane in order to operate LCY-IOM flights because their 80 seaters are too big for the market.

easyJet sometimes use A320's on the IOM-LPL route and a few are scheduled as such. I should know, I was on one last summer.

Flybe operate 4 times a day to LPL too.

What's the actual deal with the runway extension? I've been told rumours about subsidence and that it may not remain fully load bearing for much longer...

But nobody seems to be willing to confirm anything at EGNS...

P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } Does anyone have experience flying private jets into Ronaldsway? I'm doing some research on why Isle of Man is now a major route for importing private planes into Europe, and the knock on benefits for places like Farnborough. I know Malta is big too, but Isle of Man is closer to home
I'd like to talk to some pilots who've made the journey.

Talking to lawyers and accountants about this matter will probably yield better results than asking pilots... ;-)

there as also an article in Flight a week or so ago about the guy who runs the Registry

I guess it's a cheap place to register your aircraft but not as dodgy as some others

https://www.gov.im/ded/Aircraft/

is pretty clear

also Google is your friend

https://corporatejetinvestor.com/art...raft-isle-man/

Advantages of the registry

The Registry is operated by the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Economic Development which provides a top quality, cost effective and highly efficient service together with access to senior decision makers who are readily available and happy to answer any queries. The world class level of customer service provided by the registry staff coupled with their willingness to be flexible and readily available outside of normal working hours or during weekends to ensure that registrations are processed efficiently and expeditiously is a key feature in its success. The Government’s significant investment into a new online registration system that will result in a more streamlined registration process is a clear indicator that it is committed to ensuring that the Registry and its workings remain industry leaders and at the ‘top of their game’. The speed, efficiency and professionalism of the Registry and its staff are recognised throughout the industry, with an industry leader recently quoted as saying: “When you want something done quickly you pick up the phone and it gets done… in terms of just getting things done, if you want an approval, it is very quick and very efficient.”
Registration of mortgages

The Register permits the registration of mortgages over aircraft on a secure mortgage register and institutions or individuals funding the acquisition of an aircraft on the Register can be reassured by the system of mortgage registration and priority which mirrors the English system coupled with the extremely competitive pricing structure.
Unlike many other jurisdictions, the Registry permits the registration of mortgages outside of office hours.
Flexibility with aircraft crew, licences and maintenance

The Island adopts a pragmatic approach to regulation and licensing whilst maintaining the highest international standards. Generally, the Registry will accept aircraft, crew licences and maintenance programmes/operators that comply with reputable international standards. This leads to significant cost savings for owners choosing the Isle of Man over other less flexible jurisdictions.

The latter paragraph of the post above is the most pertinent for most operators. EASA and FAA licenses welcome.
No for-reward operations, though.
You might also look at Guernsey's 2-REG for similar benefits and more privacy: 2-REG

Almost choked and fell off my chair when you mentioned the ATR as being ideal! No tailwind capability, poor power to weight, marginal crosswind capability and appalling reliability.

Frankly the ATP was a far better bet for our climate and weather. The Q400 was also pretty good at bad weather.

Just saying....
