Neither carrier offer special day return fares, why would they as 90% of their business on GCI-JER are day returns.

How Incompetent
Well what excuse are Jersey Airport Authority going to come up with this time after failing to get the airport open for business after the snow. If Guernsey can open what is the problem over here? Lack of equipment? Lack of man power? Wrong sort of snow?

Wakeup: Such a unique problem isn't it? It's not like we saw almost every major West European airport shut down at some point this weekend.
The States apparently can't even afford to keep the swimming pool open at the hospital at the moment, I don't think they've got a spare few hundred grand to keep the airport open when it snows like this once in a blue moon.

In all fairness, I don't think JER did too badly at all; bear in mind that even if it had opened on Sunday, most destination airports would have been closed.
Incidentally, heard a rumour that Blue Islands was going to add a second ATR42 for the JER-LCY route. Has anyone else heard anything along these lines?

I also note that for summer 2011 Lufthansa will operate 2x 735s to Dusseldorf on Saturdays between July and August in addition to Air Berlin. It is great to see the success of the German routes, although I would wish to see a greater variety of destinations. Aer Lingus Regional has not yet released Cork for 2011, is this going ahead? I always assumed this route does well, hopefully it will be released in the New Year.

My my its quiet around here....
Well apart from the otherwise thrilling news that SI are to introduce a £200 return JER-LCY service; I noticed earlier today that BA have re-timed the LGW schedule slightly for Summer '11:
The aircraft operating the 0700 BA8034 departure from JER no longer returns as the BA8033 from LGW to operate a 1015(ish) BA8036 JER-LGW.
Instead the BA8034 will operate at its normal time, however the BA8033 will now operate (on a different aircraft) at 0720 from LGW allowing an early morning arrival into the island. Therefore the morning schedule is as follows:
BA8034 0705 JER 0750 LGW
BA8033 0720 LGW 0815 JER
BA8036 0855 JER 0945 LGW.
There is no longer a mid morning rotation, with the next flight being the lunch time 8037/8038 service.
It seems quite a smart move by BA, they trialled the early LGW-JER service in Summer 10, taking the route up to 6 x daily, however the three morning flights were overkill and the loads suffered.
By offering the early LGW-JER they seem to be able to compete with BE and their early LGW-JER, yet keep the loads sufficiently high by operating the same number of flights as before. What do we think?

Well Flybe. has dropped its early morning arrival into the Island; the earliest inboard flight is now 09:55 as it was before. They’ve added a new midday flight on some days instead.
But the re-timing of the British Airways flight is better for business travellers and I doubt will too much impact on outbound passengers, so it’s a useful change.
It appears, however, that the BA8049/BA8034 will not operate on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings between April and the beginning of June; I don’t know the reason for this?

Tech log will giver better answers.
In a v brief nutshell, all low vis procedures decision height are based on rad alt. This therefore requires a level ground surface from the threshold to quite a way out on the approach. Jersey has St Peters valley on short finals to 27, and a dirty great cliff for 09. Both ends therefore have rapidly changinging rad alt valeues just prior to touchdown. It will stay Cat I capable until HUD displays are common place and certified for everyday use.
Hope this helps.

Some more news from Jersey - the German routes are being strengthened next year with Air Berlin (using DH8s and possibly 319/737 from DUS) operating from Düsseldorf (begins 5 May), Frankfurt (begins 28 April via Guernsey) and Hannover (begins 28 April via Guernsey) as well as Lufthansa (using 735s) from Düsseldorf (begins 5 May) and Hamburg (begins 12 May).

Good news to see further expansion of the German air services. I have taken a number of flights to Dusseldorf with Lufthansa and Air Berlin over the last few years, and the flights have been nearly full on each occassion. I think I was the only Jersey person among the German hikers and language students!
I also understand that there will be a few charter flights again to Vienna in June next year and a one-off flight to Erfurt in May.
