Yes I heard a US-reg'd B762 supposedly, but unconnected to OE. Be staggered if a B747 arrived even if it was the SP-version. We expecting the Sultan of Oman or someone?

EDIT 1300hrs 31/8/09:
N767MW is the B762 I believe. We'll see if it turns up.

hmm....

Seems my cynicism was well-placed.

The 767 is not now apparently coming to ABZ.

Re the SP, don't think it's coming either. Apparently someone DID ask if ABZ could take one, to be told:
i. it could land
ii. it probably wouldn't take off again
iii. lack of suitable handling facilities (steps)
iv. lack of taxis (OK, that last one made up!!!)

You'll just have to stick to the usual diet of the odd Citation.

Yup, Aberdeen...oil capital of the NE of Scotland, with suitable small provincial airport with a small runway to match...

Never mind, Trump's comin' - ain't he???

Deluge

ABZ managed to cope with the deluge then? Of rain that is!

Looked quite wet!!

GSM looking to operate to DBV, weekly flight, in S10. Perhaps it's the rain, but I'm willing to wager that it'll be dropped due "lack of demand" nearer the time!

Or maybe the grim weather will HELP demand!!

Dubrovnik used to be popular before the Balkans had the war.No reason to think that it won't be again.
Came in on GSM from Dalaman on rainy thursday, and it was no worse than a rainy night in Honk Kong.
The real problem was the immigration area, and baggage reclaim.Totally overloaded with one 738 load. The terminal is a grotty little toy-town shack, which needs to be torn down, and re-built properly.

So much for BAA terminal improvements! You can actually You**** them as BAA have uploaded images there (presume they are also on their website).

I guess though BAA are no longer interested in doing even less than half of the runway extension that they were so anxious have secure from the Cooncil. "Vital to the airport & region" I thought they said. Ferrovial obviously disagree.

Yes, I remember when Aviogenex were flying on behalf of Tour Operators to Dubrovnik & Pula in the early 90s, both Sun evenings (732s).

Bloody hell I'm older than I think!

Billund

Just saw that post! Is that Cimber in their own right, or on behalf of SAS?

Edit: Had a look earlier, it is Cimber Sterling in their own right. Are they trying to compete with the bmi EBJ flight?

2010 - Cruise Flight

I see that the Fred Olsen Cruise flight scheduled for next March (2010) is still available for booking. I thought this was conditional on the Runway extension going ahead?

I assume that since the flight is ABZ to BGI, and will most likely be a B767 or similar, it will now have to make an added fuel stop.

Any ideas of which airline is operating?

Departs ABZ on 18 March 2010 and arrives back in ABZ on 02 April 2010.

Also, any ideas why FlyGlobespan have never operated to Toronto from ABZ?

2010 - Cruise Flight

I had heard that Bath Travel in Bournmouth were organising it.. if that's true then I would imagine a tech stop in Bournemouth to pick up fuel and more pax, with a direct flight back to ABZ.

Runway Extension

Does anyone know exactly what is happening with the runway extension?

Has it been approved?? If so, when is it likely to happen??

Thanks

BAA sought & got approval from the council, since then a load of bullsh!t re being "in talks" about it & waiting for approval, presumably from Goddo - aka Ferrovial I assume. Suspect the need for it though has diminished for now, with the ongoing recession impacting passenger figures, plus with the added ingredient of the oil industry for once suffering at the same time as the general economy, therefore the traffic going offshore also affected. All this seems to have taken the immediate pressure to build the extension away. I always recall RYR saying (they say many things!!) that if the runway was long enough, that they could launch one or two european route to ABZ. BAA themselves have said that a longer runway would help with attracting more distant routes, including the fabled Houston, Canada...& allegedly Dubai!

Re Canada, anyone recall how the Toronto flights with Air Transat all those years ago were received? GSM had said they could consider Canada & Florida from ABZ, again depending on runway issues, albeit that was though at the time the airport, especially international traffic, was healthy.

I've said it before, can't help but think BAA have missed a trick, if not in lengthening the runway for passenger flights, then for freight flights. Yes we've had the odd smokey Antonov, but most freight traffic going abroad from Aberdeen is shipped out from the harbour. With service cos. exporting more equipment to the likes of Africa, I just wonder whether a longer runway, with a more extensive freight apron/terminal, wouldn't help bring increased trade to ABZ? Guess that's something else that won't happen.

At least OE2009 brought the delegates...47,000 over the week, a record. So at least the airport will get a temporary boost in passenger figures. But nothing exotic, unless you count an SAS CRJ900 as that! Apart from that just the usual bizjet movements, with I think a notable absentee in the Heerema operated Citation - PH-HMA ('RMA before that). Don't recall seeing them here unless I missed it. Heerema usually sent up their corporate steed during OE.

Is the multi storey car park now finished? See there was some hullabaloo over BAA increasing parking charges, just in time for OE. All about timing!!

I see about this time last year, Flybe were talking about major expansion at ABZ, but something that has not come about yet. Unless the launch of CWL was it! I thought they were looking to start MAN for example.

Thanks for the info Richard. I was wondering what was happening as there was so much talk about it months ago and it now seems to have gone very quiet.

What a missed opportunity.
