Barcelona

Local (de)press has caught up with the fact that Flyglobespan are no longer flying Barcelona next year, in favour of flying to Dalaman & Ibiza(short season) instead.

Interestingly, also reports BAA Aberdeen may be trying to speak to other airlines about offering a Barcelona flight next year.

But who - apart from Flybe maybe - would take on such a service in these troubled financial times?

Norwich have LTE flying some schedules, but Spanish airlines seem to be in troubled waters lately.

Given that they have not yet got anyone to restart other domestic & international schedules dropped over the last few years, I don't hold out much hope, eg. Oslo, Murcia, Cardiff, Stansted etc.

Runway Extension

Is the runway extension at aberdeen operational? If so how can Flyglobespan reach turkey and Lanzarote without a refuelling stop.

Is MANto ABZ with Flybe a distinct possibility? Gutted since Ryanair pulled LPL to ABZ.

cheers

Runway extension is only a pipe dream.GSM go to Cyprus and Tenerife already,so it's 6 and half a dozen.

RT.
You missed KLM increasing to 5 a day Amsterdams.More scrapping over the 4 International stands.

You have more chance of Ryanair doing Aberdeen - Girona than you do Flybe to Barcelona.

As said before... runway ext. starts in April at the same time as the runway re-surfacing.

How much of the council approved 300m can AAL afford to build?

I think they have budgeted for 150 meters firstly as they have the whole runway resurfacing to do as well at the same time.

Globespan TFS

Can anyone on here give a rough idea of how well Globespan are doing with their TFS flights in relation to on time departures, cancellations, fuel stops etc.

I heard a horror story about their FARO flight the other day. I'm booked on the TFS flight 31st October and I'm concerned they might cancel the flight or bus us to Glasgow.

Had a good experience flying with Globespan before, but dissapointing to note they have already dropped ACE already. Although I have some sympathy in today's economic climate.

thanks

The ABZ base is being extended to year-round from this Winter. Flights introduced is LPA, SSH, and continued AGP and TFS. To be honest, GSM never released an ACE route, and can't now as they have been given the TFS flight to cover for Winter. This is a nice profitable based for GSM and the TFS flights are one of the safest routes that are flown by us.

Latest Indusry rumours expect Flybe to take over Aberdeen - Scatsta route in December!?

Are Flightline pulling the plug early?

Are they going to move half the helicopter fleet to Aberdeen as well?

Will miss the regular rickety old Antonov...suppose we'll still see the odd AN26 & AN12 on freight charters trailing the obligitory smoke. The 12s have returned in recent weeks after a lull - I thought they had been banned!

Are these ex-BAR ATPs that are coming in?

Is it my imagination or has there been a recent increase in biz movements? Are more people in business choosing Netjets et al in preference to the scheduled routes?

At least the Antonov seemed reliable.ATP well let's see.
RT,
The east apron is getting pretty crowded sometimes.Bond have got new machines so that doesn't help either. The whole airport is getting busier. All 3 Heli companies doing a 3rd rotation. They can't get training in,some head off elsewhere.
With the way the global economy is heading(down),and the oil price(up),ABZ will be getting busier and busier
And yet the company that employs me STILL thinks it's a little landing strip in the Congo, with a couple of Whirlwinds festering there.

IAC contract

I understand that no decision regarding the IAC contract has been made and no firm decision will be made until November - it will take until then to complete the tendering process. The current rumours are purely educated guesswork.

Apparently there may be as many as seven contenders in the running for the contract - three of which are currently operating either the 146 or the RJ.
