Maybe if they don't concentrate on trying to attract Baku oil traffic which they were trying to do last time as I recall, they'll make a better go of it? I think if Baltic weren't coming back Wizz might have tried it eventually. Very welcome news anyway.

Baku from Riga traffic..
Michael Grimme, Chief Commercial Officer of airBaltic: “Every month, airBaltic has been achieving consistently good results. This means we can now bring it back to our customers by offering affordable tickets and new destinations. We are now making the necessary preparations for a new Aberdeen-Riga route to offer excellent connections via Riga to and from destinations such as Baku, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Warsaw, Kiev, Odessa.”

NHV base complete & open
https://www.energyvoice.com/oilandga...deen-heliport/
They have Chevron as a client so regular work for them at least. Hoping for a larger slice of a decreasing pie, with the 175 they hope a useful alternative to the S92, with also no signs of a return of the 225 in UKCS, at least not yet.
NHV apparently have 2 175s at ABZ, a 3rd arriving Dec.

Now that BA no longer fly to Baku, Air Baltic may have more transfer traffic to Baku as many on the Baku flights with BA had connected down from Aberdeen. At the moment people have to go with Lufthansa and connect or fly with Azerbaijan airlines from Heathrow.

ABZ-GYD is not offered as a connection with air Baltic. I believe it's a very short, low frequency season for RIX-GYD anyway.
Most sensible options are LH via FRA or AF/J2 via CDG

That's the usual winter change though? I think they've always switched to E190s over winter season. Difference this time, I don't think they will change back in S17. I'd have
1x daily C152 if it meant retaining the actual route. We'll have to see how it runs - at some point the reduction in passengers has to bottom out somewhere, but the question is to what level. Nothing anyone outwith airport management can do but watch.

Thanks Capt D. At least LH are trying to maintain the route. Cannot be easy for any business route at present. If ABZ can hang onto all their business routes through this prolonged downturn they'll be doing well, even if that means a reduction in capacity/freq as we have already seen; the priority is to keep the route surely.
Perhaps ABZ have changed their focus on to attracting more low cost, given the arrival of Wizz, impending return next year of Ryanair and return for summer 2017 of airBaltic.
It's all hard going anyway, at least until any diversification of the local economy takes place, or we have an influx of inbound tourists from any promotional campaigns for this part of the world. I often wonder how vigorously the area is promoted for tourism (not necessarily the city - who wants to come here?; but the 'shire).

The location of the airport being Northwest of the city doesn't help either. If it was anywhere to the south it would be significantly more attractive to about 250k people or abouts in the Dundee area.

Leaving the existing airport for helis/GA and building a new one to the south may have its merits - but, just like LHR R3, it'll have as much chance of happening as I have winning the lottery. Politics dear boy, politics.

The AWPR will make ABZ more attractive for Taysiders when it opens next year given it will be non-stop dual carriageway virtually door to door.
Needless to say, I'm sure EDI will remain the airport of choice for the majority.

POTUS TRUMP
As the Buchan Observer succinctly observed, 'North East Business Owner wins US Election'
Will we continue to see his TRUMP B757 if he wants to visit his golf course here?
AF1 is as I recall a B747-800, so he might have a bit of trouble landing here....

AF1 (B742) unsuitable for Aberdeen. Unlikely the Trump B752 would be used as the B742 has massively more comms/anti missile etc capability. Think its likely the Trump B752 will be stored or offered for rent/lease during his presidency.
Much more likely is the B742 arriving at Prestwick or even Lossiemouth, then helicopters doing the shorter hop.

Thank you all. Yes, Prestwick or Lossie would be the likely destinations for the 747 - if Sturgeon lets him in!
I just had visions of a stream of black cars screaming along the A90!
Pretty sure ABZ did see a 747... but only as a touch & go, as Concorde did once.
