Excel Airways
Sorry for everyone concerned. In the present financial climate any company with large debt and not making a profit is in dire trouble. This includes airlines who also have the oil price to contend with. This company will not be the last to go to the wall.

How can the French and German divisions ‘continue to operate as normal’? And how can the administrators blame ‘economic conditions’ (in addition to the fuel price, which everyone accepts), when XL’s planes are packed and bookings are looking fantastic for months to come? Do the French and German divisions pay any less for fuel? Of course not. In fact French / German costs are higher due to higher handling costs at the airports. I think the fact that the French and German divisions continue to operate (while great news for their staff), needs some looking at.
Something’s rotten, and I don’t think we’ll know the full story or a long while.

Hello to everybody in UK.
I used to meet lots of you and all very nice people.
All my best and friendly wishes.
Can someone explain why the French and the German Airlines are not affected.
That means you keep the ones making money and throw away your debts isn't it?
I would be delighted being allowed to do the same with my loans...
Is there a special law for bankers?
So sad
anyway

It's a pity XL aren't a bank actually: the UK government would be lining up £10bn of taxpayers money to sort the mess out! One rule for one industry and another for the rest!
Sorry to everyone affected by the demise of XL.

Media Reporting
Once again the media provides a lot of coverage about the stranded passengers, understandably, but West Ham gets more of a mention than the staff!!!

Another sad day
What a terrible day for UK aviation, with yet another airline pulling up its wheels for the last time. At this rate LGW will have no airlines left, what will the competition commission recommend then?
Lets hope there will will be no more bad news this year!

Good Luck
I would like to pass on my sympathy and support to the XL flight and cabin crew and the ground staff at this dreadful news. I hope that you can all get through this very sad time and I will be rooting for you.

Sad News
Biggest collapse since ILG and Air Europe. Shocking News.
Tell me again how many 'share holders' were affected in the Northern Rock scandal? seems like some Government intervention to bale out the 200,000+ customers caught up in this collapse should be considered! People who have worked hard and spent their own hard earned cash on a well earned break trying to get away from 'disaster UK'
Goodluck to all the staff but it'll be tough for them with so many other failures happening.
Maybe the Government could buy XL and the UK could have a nationalised flag carrier again?

It's almost 8 years since I lost my job.
I am so sorry to all those at XL who have lost their jobs and are facing worrying times ahead! I can sympathise with you all.
Question: why is it that the Court always appoints Administrators in the evening? Is it stock market manipulation? Preventing suppliers from pulling the plug too early? At my company's demise they even tried to get the salaries back, but these had been paid thru BACS just a couple of hours before and could not be retrieved!!!
Bastards.
What about informing customers/staff before they leave home, rather than all the shenanigans at airports the next day?
Keep your pecker up and dont give in!
I wish you all the very best for your futures.

Mrs Fms_fail is (was) in managment in XL and we found out the news last night at 11:30pm through guess work and started looking through the internet to disgustingly find out that way. Through her good self, i know the amount of fantastic and highly qualified people who worked there.. Our thoughts are with all of the staff.
