Trislander fleet replacement announcement was due to take place in the first chunk of this year, yet the death knell has not yet been formally sounded. After the trial last November the Dornier was selected as the preferred replacement but we've had no announcement yet. So I'd guess it's going to be the announcement of the lease or firm order of either 2x or 3x Dornier 228s for delivery in Q4 2014/Q1 2015, alongside the simultaneous phased withdrawal of the four remaining Trislanders (with this perhaps running somewhat 2015 depending on operational limitations).

Having long said 'I'm not bothered whether its an ATR or a Jet* (*does not include the 146 - that just had 5 APUs) - having now flown on the BE195 with Aurigny crew - I much prefer the jet - they even managed the full Aurigny service on the shorter flight.
Is anyone able to advise when the Dorniers will start flying to/from Alderney on a regular basis ? Yes, I know it'll likely be sometime before about late October but something a little more precise than a 6 month window would be nice !
Was hoping for a ride on a Trislander before they're gone but can't make the bank holiday scenic specials.

scenic trislander flights
If you want scenic, go to Auckland for one of the regular several times a day flights to Great Barrier Island. But I don't know whether the tris have a future there either, so better be quick. Questioned in March, the staff knew of no imminent plans for replacement.

GR say they could be flying earlier than October, but I can't see a full phase-in of the 228s and retirement of the Tris by then somehow. If you really want the full monty you could do worse than to book SOU-ACI-GCI-DNR-GCI-ACI-SOU this side of late July - not cheap (probably £400) but you'd get the full experience - or simply SOU-ACI-GCI-ACI-SOU - for a bit less.

Also noted on BBC Guernsey from 12 May that Kevin Stewart, Commerce and Employment Minister, has announced Aurigny will start flying to Rennes in France this year.
Not sure what consequences this will have on the 4x weekly Guernsey - Dinard route, as it seems unlikely that both will viably run simultaneously. The latter was reviewed last summer, but also worth noting that flown by D228s the longer sectors to Southampton and France will see substantially lower costs.

Who are the target market for the existing Guernsey-Dinard route ?
What would be the rationale for a route to Rennes ? Nearest sizeable city having a suitable airport with high frequency TGV service ? Or is Rennes being considered for some other reason ?

In truth, Aurigny don't have a great record in developing routes. Lifeline routes have survived but other commercial routes that they acquired or, occasionally tried to develop, have, at best, stagnated. To France they have flown to St Brieuc, Granville and Caen with no success. The route to Cherbourg died a fairly sudden death having previously supported direct flights from all three islands. I believe that pax dropped from 19,000 to less than 8,000 over a two year period (I never saw any publicity for the routes in normandie and only a couple of newspaper adverts announcing the launch of the JER - Caen route with no ongoing publicity), DNR is down from a dozen or more flights per week. The list goes on.
GR don't ever advertise any routes other than GCI-LGW & occasionally GCI-JER. The other routes are indeed left to stagnate, they have little or no chance of growing without keeping the product in the mind of the paying public.
