London City

I see on an Island news website that Aurigny have been awarded a licence to fly to LCY, does anyone on here have any further information eg timings of flights, aircraft to be used and when the services will go on sale?

E195

Does anyone know which Flybe A/C GR will be getting. The 1st GCI-LGW flight I believe is next Sunday (30th). I presume the A/C will either be in GR colours or at least stripped of it's Flybe colours as GR won't want to be seen advertising Flybe and neither will Flybe be want any GR delays to appear to be their fault if the AC is still in their colours ?

The lease does start on the 30th:

Aurigny Air Services Fleet List

Presumably one of G-FBE(J/K/L) currently in storage:

Flybe Fleet List

Or it could be one of the 10 they are withdrawing from service by the end of March.....

I presume they'll do what they have done with the leased ancient West Air Sweden ATR-72 - white tail with tiny Aurigny branding.....

ACL has granted Aurigny slots for a 2x daily LCY-GCI service for a Sept start date. 590 slots allocated (for 11,210 seats), all for D228 operations. Interesting to note that BE has also been allocated slots for five DH8-operated domestic routes (IOM, NQY, BHD, JER and INV) so will be competing 2x daily with Blue Islands on LCY-JER, but competition with GR on LCY-GCI is conspicuously absent for the time being.

Hammad & co. must feel certain that their cost-cutting programme will bear the necessary fruit, and that an LCY operation will not add substantially to their cost-base. Alongside the planned rebrand and ad campaign mooted for next week, whether this is true or not remains to be seen. But the prospect of Flybe operating an LON - Channel Islands service in competition with another carrier will surely cause rumblings at Aurigny Head Office.

AM are you sure its for the 228! That will be financial madness. When AW looked at it back in 2002 there was no way that you could ever make any money using a 228 even when we had the ATR42 on the route it was not even close to breakeven. Or is this a corporate shuttle that will have a couple of spare seats.

In Aurigny's application it has them starting with Dornier 228 and then upgrading to ATR 42, two aircraft that they don't currently operate!!

Aero Mad is right. The ACL report shows that Aurigny has been allocated a total of 590 slots, and there are a total of 590 slots allocated to Dornier 228s. I don't think anyone else is bringing D228s in!

I would not be remotely surprised if the aircraft magically changed to an ATR42 before the service starts. Indeed I'd be astonished if it didn't.

Weekday slot times are not bad, incidentally. LCY arrival 0800 local, depart 0830, and arrive LCY 1815 local, depart 1845.

The 228 is approved for LCY but as far as I know its never operated in there. The approval was done for a proposed Humberside operator. But in reality if there are a limited number of 228 slots is it worth all the additional training costs and approvals. One would suspect that the ATR42 operation will be a co-operation with BlueIsland. Blue are already approved so that will reduce costs.

Dutch airline Flexair operated the D228 into LCY circa 1992. Can't recall which city it flew to, but they had a very smart livery. Google PH-FXA

If AUR operate AT42s between EGJB & EGLC they'll make even bigger losses than they do now !

They seem to be talking about using D228s all over the place, yet it seems doubtful they will be acquiring that many.

Looking at the Aurigny website & trying to book a flight on the Embraer, it looks as though 40 plus seats have been blocked off, I looked at several flights & each time I get to the seat selection I get the same result. Is the 195 weight restricted at GCI or am I misreading the seat map?

The E195 is an easy aircraft to Trim if the seats are blocked correctly. Looking at this trim of blocked seats the trim would be in around 24-26%. Obviously depending upon where the bags etc are placed though looking at this seat block they would need to be placed in holds 1 and 2 as anything in 3 or 4 would possible mean that its take of weight would be off out of trim. Anything from 22-25% is considered the most fuel efficient trim for the 195.
