WIZZ AIR THRIVES IN HUNGARY
MAINTENANCE HANGAR, 10TH AIRCRAFT AND TWO NEW ROUTES IN 2016
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, celebrated today the handover of the maintenance hangar built by Budapest Airport. The maintenance hangar represents an investment of almost €3 million and will help create over 70 additional jobs for skilled engineers.
Wizz Air and Budapest Airport, signed a 15-year lease agreement for the newly built line maintenance hangar in June 2014. The 2000-square-meter hangar and 200 square meter service facility can accommodate a single aircraft including the first Airbus A321 models that will start arriving to the airline’s Budapest fleet from November this year. Line maintenance and minor repairs required in the course of daily operation will be performed in the new hangar.
The airline also announced it will expand its operations in Hungary next spring by adding a tenth aircraft to its Budapest base. The new aircraft will be delivered in March 2016 and support new service from Budapest to Baden-Baden and Nice beginning in mid March with two weekly flights each. The airline also announced a frequency increase on its existing route from Budapest to Gothenburg in the peak season, as well as extended the operation of three weekly flights on Budapest – Malta service to the off-peak season.
With this expansion, Wizz Air now offers a total of 44 routes to 21 countries from Budapest. Seats on the new routes are already on sale from just HUF 5,990* and can be booked on wizzair.com. Wizz Discount Club Members can enjoy a further 20% discount on the prices on all tickets booked until midnight 1 September.

FREQUENCY INCREASES ON EXISTING ROUTES FROM BUDAPEST:
Speaking at a Press Conference in Budapest József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air said:"Today we have reached another important milestone for the company with its roots in Hungary. Our new maintenance hangar will create more highly qualified aviation jobs in the country and, together with our pilot school and cadet program, retain talent for Hungarian aviation.
We continue to grow capacity and expand our route network in Hungary. Budapest will be the first operating base of the airline to receive the first four brand new 230 seater A321 aircraft arriving this winter. Bringing the 10th aircraft in Budapest in March 2016 will further strengthen Wizz Air’s leadership in the country.
Since 2004 when the airline took off for the first time we have earned the loyalty and trust of close to 15 million passengers on our Hungarian route network. We continue to enhance our customer experience while offering lowest possible fares to the market. We encourage our customers to tailor their travel experience with WIZZ according to their own needs. Our very low fares will meet your needs if you are traveling on a budget, while if you seek extra comfort you can benefit from our numerous enhancement products and services."

Wizz Air completes $13.7bn Airbus deal - www.travelweekly.co.uk
A deal to purchase 110 Airbus A321neo aircraft worth $13.7 billion has been agreed by Wizz Air.
The agreement will enable the central and eastern European budget airline replace older aircraft in its fleet as well as meet expansion plans into the next decade.
Airbus has granted significant discounts from list prices of the aircraft to Wizz Air, the carrier said. It follows a memorandum of understanding with Airbus announced in June.
The airline has an outstanding commitment to purchase a further 48 aircraft from Airbus, comprising 21 A320ceo (current engine option) aircraft and 27 A321ceo aircraft. However, ten A320ceos currently due for delivery in 2018 under an existing order will be cancelled.
The first 230-seat A321ceo aircraft will enter service in November.
The new agreement includes the purchase of 110 Airbus A321neos (new engine option) for delivery between 2019 and 2024. Fifty one are planned to replace existing aircraft in the fleet. The airline currently operates 63 A320s.
“Airbus neo aircraft provide additional efficiencies that will enable Wizz Air to offer even lower fares to the market and will ensure Wizz Air maintains its young, efficient, industry leading fleet,” the airline said.
Chief executive, József Váradi, said: “This order will help us to build on our strong market position in central and eastern Europe. It also provides significant flexibility to match our fleet to our growth requirements.
“The new aircraft will enable us to sustain our cost advantage through cabin innovations, the latest engine technology and other efficiency improvements, while enhancing our customer offering and experience.
“Airbus is a key partner for us and we believe they have the best aircraft to serve our markets and we are happy to be continuing our longstanding relationship with them.”

There is a lot of potential in the 'beach' market - especially more routes to the Canaries, Greece & Turkey (From Budapest, Prague, Warsaw etc). Expect more middle east - especially from the Balkans, and more regional connections through UK, France and Germany (Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast etc)

One wonders will FR respond to W6 at some stage as I expect growth at BRS/BHX/GLA etc could hurt their services or have FR moved on with the business shift and will allow W6 at these type of routes.

Is it much of an opportunity? Ryanair tried, and to a great degree failed.
Also, the only routes left less served are Vienna and Russia. The Scandanavian routes have both Estonian 2.0 and SAS picking over the remains.
