Wizzair ceased their last route to Crimea in July 2013
From 30 April, Wizzair are largely dropping Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. That will leave 2 other routes touching eastern Ukraine (Kharkiv-Warsaw and Kharkiv-Kutaisi). Everything else in Ukraine will be in either the capital Kiev, or Lviv which is close to the Polish border.

Wizz haven't served Crimea for a few years have they? Wasn't Simferopol dropped not long after the Kiev base was started?

Is it me or are Wizz enormously exposed to the crisis in Ukraine and the geopolitical situation in the former Eastern block right now?
The exposure to the crisis in Ukraine is a true issue, but do you really think the same about the "former Eastern block" countries? Hungary, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, even Bulgaria and Romania, all are EU states and members of NATO. Okay, the situation can worsen even further, but then we have to consider the World War Three, God protect us.

Having said this, it's certainly more save to serve Ukraine from the Polish easternmost airports and Russia from Riga or the Finnish border than flying directly there. Ryanair didn't start St. Petersburg flights as expected, welcome both to Lappeenranta.

Presumably this was a training / advertising flight-as in NO passengers !
If not I would have gladly paid a few bucks extra for the view.

Just go to Youtube and do a search on "Wizz Air's low pass over the Danube"

There are lots of different videos of this event taken by members of the public. This 16 minute clip includes the airshow

Wizz: So I checked in online (first time on Wizz) and found the website highly irritating.
  • When I tried to register, it said I was already signed up - which I was not. But I told it I had forgotten my (non-existant) password and it kindly reset it for me.
  • That was 15 minutes.
  • I won't bore you with the iterations of 'click for web log-in' then fill in details and the 'continue' button kicking me out and taking me back to the front page.
  • I had decided that I would pay for a reserved seat as I am picky. Also, travelling solo, I have no desire to be trapped in a middle seat.
  • So they took my money and invited me to continue check-in.
  • It then told me that I was booked in and invited me to print boarding card.
  • So where was in the moment to select the seat I had just paid for?
  • The boardingcard says that I HAVE a reserved seat - but no details as to what it might be.
  • Since it costs a minimum of .92p per minute to phone them, I shall have to arrive earlier than planned to speak politely with the good folks of Wizz.
  • Current impression of Wizz - 0/10.

Wizzair - Reserved Seats

The boarding card says that I HAVE a reserved seat - but no details as to what it might be.
You do in deed have a reserved seat or you will be sitting on the wing.

Without meaning to sound condescending, you really should of checked what this entitled you to, before paying for the service.

All reserved seating gives you, is a guaranteed seat in the first three rows of the aircraft, to allow you to board and disembark quickly. It does explain this during the booking process.
WIZZ Reserved Seat including priority boarding

I haven't travelled with the airline in the last few months, but as far as I am aware Wizzair is one of the very few remaining carriers, to have a free seating policy, so can sit where you want! Such a ashame other airlines don;t offer this.

This probably applies to the rows you are booked to fly in, no guarantees which seat you have, will be a free for all, with all 18 passengers booked to use these seats.

Wizzair

I use Wizzair quite often to get from Luton to Kiev and I always have the reserved seat option, each time I have flown I had the row to myself, the flights are usually pretty full but the cabin crew still will not put anyone in the other two seats. Only on one occasion has a member of cabin crew offered the empty seats for sale before the flight departed.
If you get to the gate early enough you should get the seat you want.
As gilesdavies says you should check before committing to the purchase.
Also I have personally never had a problem with their website, I understand if you use the Opera web browser it does not work correctly, which is why I use Chrome.

On another issue it will be interesting to see if Wizzair will fly from Lviv to the UK, I was talking to a member of Lviv airport managment last week who said that it has been discussed at length about a twice weekly flight to a Northern UK airport and that the airport are looking for other possible low cost airlines to serve the UK and Europe.
Lviv is only a small airport but has a huge market potential for Western Ukraine, especially when the Ukraine starts it's open skies policy.
On a personal note I hope they do start flight to a Norther UK airport, I hate the train journey to Luton.

Would imagine it is Doncaster considering the Wizz presence there already.

Thanks folks. I fully accept that Wizz are entitled to any interpretation of 'reserved' they wish.

I went back to the site (a few moments ago) to check the options I was oferred to relate them here and (after logging in) the site urged me to Check-In for my outgoing flight. Despite my having done so more than 15 hours ago.

However, since I have checked in I could not see the options but they were along the lines of:
  1. Priority boarding
  2. Reserved seat
  3. (I cannot recall but more expensive and specified the front three rows)
All I wanted was to reserve a seat and was not in the least bothered about the front rows, in fact I would probably choose to be down the back) or boarding early as I have a checked bag. Since I have never known an LCC airline to offer 'reserved seat' without a choice, I proceeded.

T'row I shall find out what their system is. However, given that the site told me today that I should check in - when I had - I am still disenchanted with it.

Hope your trip goes well, PAXboy. Don't give up on Wizzair. I use them loads, and while the website works a bit 'differently' to other airlines', the all round service is better than most. Definitely my airline of choice to much of Eastern Europe, particularly non-capitals.
