Also, The spotters who frequent the little hotel on the threshold of '23' are reporting it to be very quiet at the moment!

Where does it say about UPS? I think Coventry airport is doomed really, they messed all the light aircraft about, they now arent open for 7 hours in a day, they put all their eggs in one basket, which caught fire and now they regret it! Its like a graveyard most of the time, electras parked all over the place, I think the management have to come up with a real ace if the airport is to survive.

I thought this was a rumour site, not a site to paste false links?

Christ, you're not bright, news on a website about fedex, which was taken from the freight dogs part of this site and not proven, then linked as proof?

Talk about chasing your tail

Frogga, yes they messed about too much with the two million passenger terminal, however I think to say that they put all their eggs in one basket is a tad unfair.

From 2003 to 2007, freight tonnage increased at the airport by 245%, although 2007 was a little down on the 2006 high. In the new management's first year in charge of Coventry Airport (2006), freight actually more than doubled year on year.

Business Jet usage also increased at the airport year on year by 35% (2006 vs 2007).

Re the runway closures, a Coventry Airport representative stated at the last Consultative Committee meeting that the closures could be "reviewed" if interest is shown to use the airport at such times.

FAO 0523 Covman

This has now appeared on the Coventry forum:

"Beginning to wish I had not posted this now, as some numpty has gone and treated it as gospel and spouted it off on PPrune as gospel

So 0523 CovMan, if you're reading this...READ THE ABOVE POSTING THOROUGHLY. It clearly states "speculation (speculated)", and "RUMOURS" and I even put the source in for you to read for yourself!!!"

I'd also add - stop taking illegal substances while in control of a keyboard

Some incorrect facts there

Freight 2003 3314 tonnes
2004 3299 tonnes
2005 6142 tonnes
2006 7785 tonnes
2007 7469 tonnes

If freight had actually doubled in the first year of operation should have been 12284 tonnes figure for 2006, admittedly was up from 2005 but a lot less of a jump than it was from 2005-6, which was pretty much doubled.

Dropped 4% year on year though from 2006-2007, and with the figures Sep07 to Sep08 seeing a 28% drop in freight aircraft(before the majority of closures) doesn't look likely to be great this year either.

Haven't bothered to check your bizjet figures yet, but suspect probably from the same "spinning" machine you got your freight ones from

any news on the 3 or 4 airlines who showed an interest ( out of a possible 19 ) coming to cvt as mentioned by the airport few months ago? Perhaps ups is one or fedex ( not ). Also haven't seen many aircraft parked up on the apron for the winter ( as hoped by cvt ). So does anyone know whats happening or going to happen regarding commercial/cargo flights in the new year.

JennyB, whilst not fully understanding your gripe with Coventry, the figures I have are as follows:

2003: 3 314 tonnes
2004: 3 299 tonnes
2005: 6 142 tonnes
2006: 12 474 tonnes
2007: 11 386 tonnes

Obtained from: A-Z World Airports Online - Country Index - United Kingdom airports - Coventry - West Midlands International Airport (CVT/EGBE)

B~~~y hell JennyB, VERY impressive, any chance of sorting my figures out at the Towers?

Anyway....tonight at 20:04 the first trial flight took place out of Cov. This was to determine whether a better noise abatement SID could be implemented for the forthcoming new freight operation. I can report that it was deemed a complete success on account that Cov ATC recieved not one noise complaint from Bubbenhall!

I was in Princethorpe when the noise trial was taking place, it could be heard, but not very loud (I was outdoors). The fact is the airport is falling apart now, they need a miracle to survive, not at CAT 2 fire cover, cargo flights almost ended (only a few a night). Back in the spring there were far more movements, and plenty of ad-hoc charters (now virtually none). There are no airliners parked as the management wished, are they doomed???

Doubt if any of your figures in the public domain I kid!!

You could ask upintheair to make them look better for you if like

Upintheair

Possibly doing you a disservice, think where you got your info wrong, rather than yourself, your stats match the caa stats until 2006, when they diverge

From the caa stats website

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport..._1997_2007.pdf
