And nothing to say that they will operate from CVT either.

New start for coventry

i see coventry has published routes on therouteshop.com that they think would be commercially viable, they must really be pushing now to make it a international airport once again, could be a new base for our low cost carriers

It needs something with no competition to get it started. It also needs to sort out access. Public transport is a nightmare in the area and Toll bar island needs sorting at peak times.
those routes are clutching at straws in the present aviation climate.

A320 passenger to freighter conversion stopped

Strong demand for used Airbus A320 aircraft drives joint decision to stop freighter conversion programme

Airbus, EADS EFW and their Russian partners, United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and IRKUT, have jointly decided to stop the A320/A321 Passenger to Freighter (P2F) conversion development programme for economic reasons and, therefore, to launch the necessary legal procedures for the termination of the joint venture “Airbus Freighter Conversion GmbH (AFC)”.

Recent market developments, including the success of the upcoming A320neo, have resulted in more demand for A320 passenger aircraft and less for freighter versions in this aircraft category. In addition, strongly growing passenger traffic results in high demand for used A320 Family aircraft, thus reducing the amount of aircraft available for conversion.

Against the backdrop of these market changes and the increasing pressure on the P2F business case, the partners have concluded to stop and freeze the P2F programme.

The joint venture “Airbus Freighter Conversion GmbH (AFC)” was established between EADS EFW, Airbus and the Russian companies UAC, IRKUT, in April 2007. Headquartered in Dresden, Germany, AFC was equally divided between Russia (UAC and IRKUT with 25% each) and EADS/Airbus (EADS EFW 32%, Airbus 18%). The partners have decided to dissolve AFC.

The collegial and professional cooperation in this joint venture over the last four years developed by Airbus/EADS EFW, UAC and IRKUT, has strengthened the partnership between the European and the Russian aviation industry. IRKUT and Airbus will continue their partnership in components manufacturing for the Single Aisle programme.

Atlantic Airlines

I've heard very strong rumours that Atlantic are pushing to get back to Cov by September ? aparantly the Landing fees @ BHX are too high and they can save money going back to Cov.

Can anybody advise the status of the airfield ? i.e ATC / Fire / opening times etc etc

Thanks

land and coventry and then taxi to BHX to park, nice wide A45 all the way.

I suspect BHX wants all the parked planes to help it look busy but Coventry wants the land for building offices with the proposed tax breaks for the LEP. How much of the Coventry site will go to other uses under sir peters plans.

CVT have recently recruited more firecrew and Serco, the ATC operators, have recently recruited more controllers which tends to support the idea of longer opening hours and possibly improved RFF cat.
The plans for an Enterprise Zone do not take any airport land, indeed they might even give the airport a bit more to get a better declared distance from the 2008m of tarmac available.
For Atlantic Airlines, CVT could also be cheaper than BHX for parking as they have their own, off apron, parking area.

Hopefully ,Coventry airport can work with easyjet or maybe they are doing so at this moment in time to offer them a good deal to encourage easyjet to open a base here at
coventry airport.

Fingers crossed

And Coventry remains a mere 65.7 miles by National Express to/from the front door of Easyjet's main operating base!

Or has Coventry moved farther away?

i think coventry would be a good airport for easy as they do not fly from birmingham, and with the current plans they have for the airport it is similar to that of southend

So ... if EZY decide to serve the city and surrounds of BHX then why shouldn't they operate to/from BHX, EZY's business model in not to operate to/from airports off the beaten track that the majority of travellers have no wish to be travelling to/from ..... there's an Irish mob famous for that!

P.S. And if EZY don't utilse BHX then how come they have BHX/GVA and BHX/GNB on the EZY website?

gva and gnb and thats probably it, as fr doesn't fly there ( not 100% sure ) so why not easy come to cvt as in southend. But i cant help feeling mr rigby will probably start his own airline up with 737s or dash8/atps, we'll have to wait and see !. If atlantic isn't getting a320s do you think they will get more 737s

they have BHX/GVA and BHX/GNB on the EZY website
It's of course ski-season-only (end-Dec until end-Apr) operated by EZS aircraft (for GVA). Tried and failed to make GVA year-round a few years back. But yes, BHX would make more sense than CVT, but in EZY's case, my bet is neither. They had a perfectly good operation at EMA they've decided to abandon (when entering MAN). CVT isn't far-enough from LTN, and BHX not far enough from MAN and LPL, I guess, all those EZY strongholds. Check the LTN forum, folks there are worried about their routes because of SEN. No way they will open another UK base soon.

Southend Airport, by the time EZY get there, has an airport rail station with circa 4 trains per hour to/from London and on the way to/from London pax can transfer at Stratford mega rail station complex for other UK mainline services, the London Underground, the Docklands Light Railway and Eurostar services to Paris, Brussels etc.

Coventry Airport has?
