I may be wrong but I seem to remember proving flights for LCY with the a318 taking place several years ago.

There are A318 flights from LCY already - BA1/2 and 3/4. They need a software mod to the aircraft though.

Start the betting....
Id give this operation ex Cambridge 4 months.
Just ever so slightly more wacky than the recent Flybe's LCY foray..

In the last year or two, Cityjet whose primary strength has been their London City business-centric base have reduced London City, dropping routes like London-Dundee and London-Edinburgh. Flybe have opened a quasi-base at London City, with new routes like London-Edinburgh

Flybe who are dominant in flying people from UK regional airports on routes that don't touch London have substantially dropped Cardiff, closing routes like Cardiff-Edinburgh and Cardiff-Glasgow. Cityjet have opened a Cardiff base, flying routes like Cardiff-Edinburgh and Cardiff-Glasgow.

Both Flybe and Cityjet fly a mix of props and regional jets, averaging around 70-80 seats

Seems like 2 airlines, both of which have reduced operations at their primary cities, and gone into markets where they are partly unknowns, swapping a strong market share for a weaker one.

Seems at least part of this game of musical chairs is going to end in tears.

Hopefully Cityjet may consider a WAT to London route in the future!

From The Irish Times, 1st May 2014

CityJet’s new owner, German company Intro Aviation, expects the Irish airline to return to profitability in 2015 following its sale by Air France-KLM. Speaking in Dublin earlier today, Hans Rudolf Wohrl, founder and chief executive of Intro Group, said: “We probably won’t be profitable this year but the losses seem to be reasonable.” He added that the airline would “probably” return to the black in 2015 “but don’t ask me if I’m sure about it”.
Dublin-based CityJet will return to profit in 2015 says new owner Intro Aviation - Tourism News | Travel & Tourism Industry News | The Irish Times - Thu, May 01, 2014

Fully agree, it just shows the top brass in both just don't get it - CityJet have no excuse they've had a fresh debt-free!! start. Get it right, not many others get any chance like that and many airlines have gone to the wall because of previous debt.

You've already had it - Ryanair trying to turn itself into Easyjet but keeping its old management style.

Just took them LCY to Dublin and return. Return fare for me, or rather my company, was £390, in Y (I actually asked our agent if it was C class), which by a substantial amount was higher than I've ever paid before on this city pair. Hey-ho, at least it is a business-style service and I can have a G&T on the return, as I have done ever since the Cityjet aircraft were painted up in Virgin colours, what was that, 20 years ago.

On the return, ask for that G&T, told they had discontinued all such drinks in Y about two months previously. Now available in C class only.

Now MD Christine Ourmieres may be trying to justify her continuing role to new owner Hans-Rudolf Wohrl by pretending this forces people to upgrade to C (which I notice, on peak-time business flights, contained just one solitary pax both ways, and this really makes you think it's not worth continuing with in that case), or they may feel that nickel-and-diming their "premium Canary Wharf clients" (according to H-RW in the current edition of the in-house rag in the seat pocket) is the way to go.

But it's not.

It seems BA are raising London City-Rotterdam from a Saab 2000 to an Embraer 170 at 5x per day on most weekdays in the autumn. Are Cityjet still making money on this route or is BA going for the competitive kill on this now ?

A little bird tells me that BA Cityflyer has filed for Dublin slots for a DUB-LCY service for the winter season. Based on this and on the RTM schedule, I'd go pretty definitively for answer (b) to your question.

CAA May provisional stats are out.

Assuming the frequencies are those announced in the respective Cityjet route-launch press releases, and assuming no cancellations, I calculate:

Cardiff-Edinburgh: 4577 pax, 7900 seats, 58% LF
Cardiff-Glasgow: 3191 pax, 6300 seats, 51% LF
Cambridge-Dublin: 444 pax, 3500 seats, 13% LF
Cambridge-Amsterdam: 346 pax, 3500 seats, 10% LF
(Cambridge routes started on 12 May)

The airline has done its level best to minimise Cambridge load factors by launching the flights with two weeks notice and with no codeshares in sight. It will be interesting to see the results of a full month of operation (I assume they'll keep the routes going at least that long).

There were a huge number of cancellations across the network. CWL-GLA a particular sufferer, so id take those LF with a pinch of salt. I had expected them to be worse

Loads for CWL for May are as follows:

EDI 62% LF (31 PAX), GLA 53% LF (27 PAX), JER 45% LF (23 PAX), ORY 61% LF (31 PAX).

This is accounting for all cancelations, which were actually low in May.

Can you tell us why there were a great number of cancellations on the network and why CWL-GLA was a particular sufferer? I'm always intrigued by such matters.

2 colleagues use the service to GLA and and have borne the brunt of the several cancellations. No idea for the reasons behind it apart form selective logistical cancellations for perhaps low loads. There were multiple cancellations for all the Glasgow bank holidays in May also.
