Just had a look on the airlines website. Good week for BLK as flights to AMS were also announced yesterday. Just dont bank on it being published on the BLK website. For some reason they dont like updating their website which I thought would have been the 1st port of call for people interested in what services BLK has to offer.

The route is having a split launch, I.e. a delay in announcing to the Lancashire press, this is because of the A2B announcement regarding AMS earlier in the week. The official launch at the BLK end of the route is tomorrow lunch time, when the airline will be visiting BLK

Now, middle of the day, between the 2 x oslo makes for very good utilisation of an aircraft if you ask me.

Mid day is okay for joe public , but if you are attending a business meeting at 10.00 and want to come back at 18.00 the same day
then it'll be either BMI or BA from Manchester. Red eye departures
and evening flights back.

Try to find a cheap hotel in Aberdeen for an overnight stay !!

Good luck to City Star with this venture but personally the times
are duff ... hope they prove me wrong

The route, if you read the press release is aimed at the leisure markets into BLK and ABZ and more specifically the Oil and Gas Industry. Between these two industries there is more the significant demand to fill a daily flight.

The demand, as has been spelt out is driven by a particular industry which generally do not require day returns, as the business is off shore - the service is timed at the request of the customers.

Cool Price

Flights can now be booked on their website for Blackpool, but look at the price...

Even booking 4 months hence shows a return trip cheapest at £180! Flexible fare £300!

Doubt this is sustainable but wish them luck anyway.

Edited to add that if this route is underwritten by some oil company or other then I guess it might just work in that they do not need Joe Public to travel...

Dont forget to add the cost of a hotel overnight , £££ in ABZ ,
£ in Blackpool (not the same standards).

Man - Abz - Man BMI Day Return can be had for £100 -£130
if you book in advance.

I wish them luck but at that price , dont think its attractive enough , if your chopper flight comes in at 08.00 in the morning
at BPL you have to kick your heels for 5+ hours , you could have been nearly at ABZ in a hire car ! for a third of that price.

On a seperate note - hope A2B flights to Amsterdam are pitched in comparable with lo cost operators to Schipol or they'll be a dead duck !!!

The initiative is excellent but the times and pricing are pants !!

Rufus,
Have we not been round this whole hotel stay thing before. The service is aimed and timed to appeal to the guys on the rigs, they arrive in ABZ around Lunch time, so perfect time for a transfere to BLK.

There is no Hotel stay unless you are a non oil person travelling, and they will be relatively low in numbers I would guess. The frequency has been delivered according to what the oil companies have asked for!

prices are comparable with the train, but take an average of 6 hours less. You could get a flight to manchester but then you would havea 2 hour train journey (or 1.25 - 1.5 drive) back to Blackpool. The prices may be high for the leisure market, time will tell.

The A2B service will see lead in fares c.£30 each way + tax, so I understand.

Point taken , and valid , but I note your answer has the service likely to appeal to oil workers flying the ABZ to BPL leg , aimed at the chaps working North Sea probably - coming home , not the
guys in the Irish Sea who may be going back home to ABZ after whatever work pattern they work off Blackpool then.

It was just an observation and as I said I wish City Star well , only time will tellif the route is a winner.

Hope the A2B Amsterdam fares are as attractive as you've posted
if they are that could be an interesting route for Blackpool then
