Both the Helios and Air Malta scheduled services are shown in the April Scheduled Timetable now on the airport website. Air Transat Toronto is also listed as a scheduled service

The problems with NCL as an airport don't so much stem from the lack of facilities (with the exception of limited stands for summer nightstoppers), but that everything has a tendency to arrive and depart more or less together. For example, the ramp is deserted by 0800 and stays that way until after 0900 when everything starts to reappear again until around 1100 when it is deserted once more. Between 1600 and 1700 virtually all the stands on the pier are occupied, and this is perhaps the single busiest hour for the airport each day.

This surge of demand for all the various services provided by the airport and ground handlers is where the problems lie. A smooth steady flow of aircraft could be managed without difficulty, but none of the service providers have the capacity to cope with everything at once. As things stand, there are large numbers of people sat around for much of the day with nothing to do, and then running about like idiots when the a/c are in. This causes problems not only for the ground handlers, but for the airport fuellers, coaching, disabled pax handling, as well as exposing the physical limitations of the buildings which are badly designed and totally unacceptable for the pax numbers now using NCL.

I know that the airport has plans in place to attempt to address these issues, but I don't think they are able to keep up with the place of demand. The airport's business is growing much faster than its facilities, and it will very soon reach the point where it will damage its own potential by being unable to cope and pax will turn away if they have any alternative open to them.

Just received new brochures from First Choice today for Summer 2006. All flights are to be op by TCX except VRN to be op by FCA "W" - no First Choice Airlines base by the looks of things. Although EAF are down to do a Maderia flight.

Maude Charlee.... pretty much the nail on the head there!
I now work for an airline in MAN and I have to admit, It feels more like an airport... NCL seems to lack that, I dont know why.
I enjoy working from MAN, althought I do miss NCL and like to keep updated. I hope to see NCL get all these services, I have checked in a few major carriers from that airport and DXB and JFK/EWR are VERY popular.. so im sure EK would easily fill a 330 no problem, although maybe not daily at first.

That what you call an airport! As a regional airport we are on the rim of hub operators like BAW/AFR/KLM etc. We also have a low cost base with Easyjet, both of these operations lead to bunching up of traffic at certain times of the day. The airport is slot constraint through ACL for parking and terminal congestion and you will find where ever possible flights are more spaced out during the day this summer.

As for waiting for stands, well you try travelling any where and that happens a lot more than Newcastle. I have waited 45min for a stand at Manchester and 40min at Gatwick in the last six months alone! You only have to look at CAA figures for last year which put NCL as one of the most punctual airports in the country!
As for NCL departure gates? Well you's don’t get around much!!

I hear Bruce Dickinson was up front on the Astraeus 757 which flew the Newcastle United team to Lisbon on Tuesday. True or false?

lets hope we get stuggart and hamburg!!!

If we did get these routes then HLX will have germany covered. Was hoping we might get the odd route from germanywings or air berlin but this doesn't look so.

re Germany.....There is still a need for a Lufthansa link to Frankfurt. A good link to Star Alliance flights is required.

First Choice 2006

TCX sundays flight to FAO is now replaced with MIR.

EAF flight will be XLA the same as the last 2 years.

Britannia don't quote me but I think the Air Scandic/Viking MD is due to depart at 10.00 and the AeroFlight 321 at 07.50, not sure about the rest. 6000 fans on numerous flights throughout the morning, looks like the terminal will be busy aswell as all usual flights.

Any other companies released 2006 yet? May get an indication of new routes when they are.

Heres a few predictions of mine for the next 12-18 months, using my crystal ball !!!!

CSA daily flight to PRG

Euromanx to IOM and possibly LCY

Eastern to INV, NWI and maybe the long awaited MAN service.

FlyBE to BHX, SNN, ORK and ABZ.

Extra req on LH DUS service to 2 daily am and pm with maybe a Frankfurt service.

HLX to Stuttgart (as rumoured).

Easy's aircraft 7 and 8 to MAD, FAO, VLC, VCE, WAW and BSL.

A Zoom Canada service.

New long haul charters to Cancun.

Numerous new european charters to the Med.

Regular scheduled services to Larnaca and Malta.

Announcement of a US service.

Ryanair increasing services to their european hubs.

And the possibility of EK to DXB and the return of EI to go head to head with Ryan on the DUB.

Maybe......Maybe not, lets wait and see but it all looks rosy for Newcastle........Its a brand New World

The May issue of "Aircraft Illustrated" says that EASTERN have secured slots for a 4 x daily (weekdays) service between NCL and LCY to be operated by Saab 2000 aircraft. It also says that proving flights were carried out in March.

HH6702, the Futura Palma flight you mention for '06 is operating this year - for Airtours i believe.
I think there will only be one based XLA(Islandsflug) aircraft his Summer, it departs to Palma at 05.00 on a Saturday returns at lunch time then off to Alicante.
