AVGAS in Mozambique

I need to ferry an R-44 helicopter from Tanzania to South Africa next week.

Does anyone have insight regarding the current AVGAS situation in Mozambique? The intended routing from the TZ border is Pemba (FQPB), Nampula (FQNP), Beira (FQBR), Kruger Intl. (FAKN). Supposedly these airports do have AVGAS however I cannot find any *working* phone number to confirm this :ugh:

If anyone can provide current phone numbers I'd appreciate it!

I don't know about the others but I recently flew to Pemba and the avgas price was huge. Almost USD 3.50 per litre including VAT. About USD 2.90 excluding. And i thought the fuel in Zambia was expensive. Also they wouldn't take a card from us. Only cash in Mets, Rands, or USD. apparently the price is reflecting a current shortage of avgas due to difficulties in getting it to Pemba? I don't know how true that is though. Maybe try getting hold of CFA as they do a lot of piston engine flying around Mozam.

Cheers,

Thanks! Eventually found a number for BP HQ that worked but the ones for the airfields that I got there either don't work or are not picked up :ugh:

I'll try CFA for info, thanks for that!

Not sure about your particular route but have just completed a ferry from Kenya to Lanseria stopping in Lilongwe on the way. They (being the bowser driver) reported that avgas was available in both Blantyre and Lilongwe for what it's worth to you.

Fuel Company in both places is Puma fuel which is international and my jetA experience of their service is very good. They take account or card or cash payments.

Weather once you're out of the East African corner was brilliant blue skies all the way down south although some storms around the Cape area yesterday.

Best of luck. Fly safely....

Give Dave at MAF in Nampula a call +258 82 386 4890. He operates a C206 and C210 out of there and should be able to give you an up to the minute avgas report.

@Foxcotte: Thanks! Considered the route via Zambia and Zim at the beginning, too, but I'm too limited on range when it comes to the AVGAS supply in this neck of the woods, esp. the stretch from Tabora to Zambia.

@Reinrobber: Thanks mate, Dave had some great information!

Just a quick feedback: not easy to get information about flying in MZ in the first place, but MAF was an excellent contact to have and they had a lot of good info. Did all clearances through Flight Clearances International in SA, very affordable and swift and they can get all info.

Coming from Tanzania into Mozambican airspace / airports was a positive surprise and nothing but great experiences with every airport and their staff there that just kept getting better and better from one airport to another.

Just beware of arbitrary fees from customs officials, they like to rip you off. And they rip you off good :E
