Hey,

Can anyone provide an idea of what the contracting life is like with Royal Air Maroc on the 737? First officer contract, such as roster patterns, sectors and the ability to commute back to Europe?

Why do you say the 737 F/O position is a P2Fly?

The position is constantly advertised through aviation recruitment agencies, seeking B737 F/O's, with ICAO CPL/ME IR and B737 type rating,
no aircraft time required, the position being an pilot applicant's FIRST airline job.
The advertisement also has an email and phone link to an agency recruiter.

You are talking rubbish mister.

It's not a pay to fly scheme!

This is not a P2F scheme. It's a well advertised contract for 2 years.

So if anyone has experience of this contract please share some insight.

It’s been P2F until at least 2013. They kicked out the “candidates” after their contract. That means they don’t want you there. They temporarily need you. It May have become a short term gig. I’ve given you factual history of your prospective employment based on experience with some of my FO’s careers. You can use this history to get an idea of what the climate is for your job you seek or not.

Thanks for your contribution, but you have provided historic context of a completely different program and circumstance that has no relevance to the contract I'm referring to.

The program I am interested in hearing about is what is currently available, which is a well advertised, 2 year renewable contract for 737 FO's. They even specify no FAA as well. So this has no relation to the P2F scheme of the past you refer to.

Historic? Like, less than 4 years ago? Ok. So, historically, you left after 500 hours, maybe not if they really really needed you and everyone seemed kind of relieved to move on, once they got a paying gig. Historically, in 2015, the FO’s I had the pleasure and occasionally displeasure of flying with, did not have nice things to say about RAM. They were also glad that I let them land, usually half the time and that they weren’t only assigned to sub Saharan african flights because they weren’t Moroccan.

Also, way way wayyyyy back, before the times when you had Face ID on your iPhone and had to enter 6 numbers to unlock it, RAM would never upgrade anyone that wasn’t a Habibi and you would get called on off days to fly a trip that a Habibi called in sick for. If you didn’t respond at 0330 to this “request”, disciplinary actions would be inacted. Us old timers call these pre Face ID times “the dark ages”.

I'm not on this contract but I've been in Morocco this summer. The climate in the company is a bit tense as they are short on pilots and the workload has been a bit unpleasant for the pilots. There has been a very long strike by the pilots this summer which caused catastrophic damages to the company. The union is still in conflict with the company for better T&Cs and apparently the company's proposal to solve the problem wasn't accepted by the majority of the pilots in the union.

I can only answer your question with regard to commuting. The commute to Europe is easy and this contract is ideal for that.

I am considering applying for the TR FO on the 737.
Any ideas for the take home money after taxes, if commuting to Italy?
8000 euros plus accommodation doesn't look bad if I could commute to Milan.

I was told that 8000 Euros is for first officer and you may upgrade to FO after you hit 500 hours on type. What is thr interview process like?

No info available yet in regards to the sim profile/ technical interview. I think they would tell you to obtain the TR before applying. The morrocan CAA can only validate your CPL inorder for you to do the screening if your TR skills test is less than 6 months old and the validation process is one of the first steps in the screening process. Please update if you find any more info.Thanks.

RAM interview/sim check
 
Hi guys, I did an interview with RAM and passed about a year ago, but decided not to join.
My overall experience with the whole interview process was quite nice. They provide return tickets from an airport of your choice (must be within their network ofc), once you arrive at Casablanca airport there is a guy waiting for you and gives you a ride to the 5 star hotel (Movenpick) - this is where pilots live if they choose to live in a hotel (in this case you dont get 1000 EUR extra). He also picks you up in the morning for the sim/interview. The hotel is simply amazing, with breakfast included, there is a gym and a nice bar/restaurant and pool at the rooftop. I was interviewed by two RAM captains (one of them is a chief pilot on 737 fleet, other a RAM captain and CAA examiner - I had to wait almost two hours for them to arrive but ok). They wanted to know reasons I applied for RAM, why I decided to leave my company, if I feel comfortable in a 737 seat (I had around 450 hrs on 737 at that time). Afterwards, they asked some basic questions like What is MORA, grid MORA, if I am familiar with LIDO flight plan (which I am) and couple of questions about items in it, then about SWC (they asked about a number on the chart - it was a tropopause height, cumulonimbus on the chart - what does it mean CB 250/XXX, turbulence and icing simbols). To be honest, you have nothing to worry about...if you dont know the answer they tell you that there is plenty of time to revise your knowledge, even though they are like You should know this bla bla...They also asked me some simple questions about 737, like When do we get an IMBAL indication and we had a discussion about it as different airlines can have different numbers (Boeing recommends one value, but companies can decide to change it - luckily I brought my company's IPAD :D ), then something about hydraulic system. In the end they gave me a 737-technical knowledge exam consisting of 20 or 25 question - it was an open book exam so bring your company IPAD or tablet if you have it. They left the room and said I have 30 minutes or more if I need it.
The following day I had a sim, they either send their FO to be your sim partner or you do it with another person doing the interview. The first day I got a paper with the possible scenarios ( (I was supposed to get it before I arrived to Casablanca but they forgot to send it). The list included: ILS approach and go around, engine fire or failure, one engine INOP landing and go around, NP approach and single engine NP approach, visual app and single engine visual APP and one of the malfunctions from the QRH. In the end I only did takeoff with engine failure after V1. memory items and QRH, single engine ILS app with go-around, then visual pattern and approach back for a landing (he froze the sim at one point and asked if I was high or low on profile). And one departure followed by PROBE HEAT illumination just to check QRH reading.
I can only tell you that company is really desperate for pilots at the moment, they have been looking for FOs constantly since July 2017...when I applied, the money was 5700 + 1000 for accomodation, now it is 8000 + 1000. The company is growing so they are doing everything to make people join them. Although I passed the interview, due to personal reasons I decided not to join them. Even if you don't do a perfect interview, **** up the sim or don't know answers to whatever they ask you, 99% you are in. It is important to know that the money Rishworth is talking about is gross but it all depends if you are planning to pay tax wherever you are a tax resident or not (their recommendation is not to apply for a residency in Morocco as you will have to give around 40% for the tax). I spoke to few FOs who work for them and nobody cares about the tax...
In my opinion, joining them could be a great epxerience, life is very cheap and you can save a lot of money, but the only problem are captains (if you are an expat and dont speak French, good luck with those guys). CRM is quite a new topic in Africa...

Yes, check out the "Junior First Officer" position on Rishworth. 737 rating with zero hours on the 737 type.

What I mean is, can you apply with 200 flying hours, straight out of flight school with a 737 type rating?
