Boeing 777-200 Belongs to Zimbabwe Government
The Zimbabwe Minister of Finance says that the Boeing 777-200 which has arrived in Harare is the property of the government and will be leased to Zimbabwe Airways which is 100% government owned.
It’s likely the aircraft will be used on the Harare - London route as there is presently no direct flight on this route and UK is a major source of tourists to Zimbabwe. I wonder how much money this will lose? |
It’s probably already lost as much as the plane is worth and has added enough employees to fill the aircraft 5 x’s.

London was on of the few profitable routes for Air Zimbabwe during the 1980s/90s. Given the large number of Zimbabweans in the UK and lack of a competitor offering a direct flight it might just work out, especially if the new President manages to get the country back on track.
