Any Kigali regulars here? AA missiles?
Flown in/out of Kigali recently and noticed these objects alongside the runway, approximately 4-5 lined up on either side of the runway. Unsure if they're new or if I've only just noticed them over the years.
They appear to be two grey boxes around 1.5m x 1.5m and I've noticed them spin 180 degrees quickly every now and then, one of them appears to have 4 'holes' or tubes on it? The only thing I could imagine them being are some sort of missile defense system, but I know I'm probably way off the mark with this? Apologies for the pics, it's the best I could find. https://s13.postimg.org/f6xr10ncn/Ph...6_15_14_48.jpgscreenshot https://s17.postimg.org/exqj64lrz/Ph...6_15_14_48.jpg20mb image hosting Any ideas or suggestions on what they may be? |
AA missiles don't really need fullly moveable launchers anymore. Especially the radar guided variety that are fixed.

I believe they are loud speakers to scare the birds.

This is Africa so it is possible they are using the AA missiles to shoot the bird.:}

I believe they are loud speakers to scare the birds. Always surprises me how modern and efficient Kigali Airport is compared to the rest of Africa, it rivals most western airports. The lounge and also free WiFi is spot on:ok: |
