Adding a type rating to an FAA license (current on SA)

Hi Folks
Hope for some help.
I have a valid and current type rating on my SA license which I wish to add on to my FAA license at my sim recurrent in a few months. I am becomming mired down searching through the forms.

I am currently flying on a validation with my SA license.
If anyone has done such a thing recently, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance!

Is your FAA certificate a "stand alone" or a 61.75 "based on?" If it's a stand alone the only way to add a type rating is to present a record of ground and flight training from an "authorized" instructor which means a FAA CFI or 142 training center and then pass an oral exam and checkride.

During your next sim,if you had fingerprints taken before, request at registration by reception when you register day one at Sim class you want it added to your FAA. They will do it all for you.Gratis

While the finger prints are good for life, I believe the background check is only good for 180 days so if the OP showed up at the training center wanting a type ride at the end of the week he'd be out of luck. Best bet is to ask the training center now what needs to be done if they are a FAA 142 school.

Thanks for the information chaps.

It is a stand alone FAA ATPL.
The intention is to add the Type to my license at next sim recurrent with CAE Burgess Hill where the rating was originaly completed.

Thanks for the help!

Hello, interesting thread. can I ask what the difference between the stand alone licence and the 61.75? I experience the same "problem" with an EASA and FAA licence. I have a rating on my EASA licence and I do my revalidation every year with FS in USA. I have also a FAA licence with no rating on it. The idea was to put my Beech rating also on my FAA licence... but for this I have to do a prior experience course... 18000$ even if I have 500 hours on this specific aircraft as Captain... explain FS, so I give up. Of course as I come from Europe every year I did the fingerprint at the begining and the TSA every year... I don't understand this prior experience course.

:ooh:

Overseas type rating put onto a FAA certificate will be limited to SIC privilege. If you want to get rid of this SIC limitation, you have to do a full FAA type rating course from the scratch (reduced hours for on type experienced pilots). There's no way around it.

A FAR 142 School can add a foreign type rating to your FAA Airman Certificate provided you have experience on type as PIC. They have a short course for this and you will have to get fingerprinted and background checked before you can be in the simulator with the motion on. As far as doing this concurrently with your SA recurrent, it all depends on what you are able to negotiate with Sales. They will most definitely charge you extra for having to provide you with an FAA approved instructor and examiner. Furthermore you will have to complete all the ground school and simulator modules which will be different than your regular recurrent. I think FSI and CAE will probably want $15,000 or more. The cheapo route would be PANAM or similar in the USA for half the price. But don't expect great training at the "mill" schools.

The SIC type requires some training and paperwork from the trainer. It's not just "Oh you've got this, we'll give you an SIC type."

SA CAA validation from FAA

Can someone guide on the process, cost, and time scale to obtain a SA license validation from an FAA license?
