French accents in South African airspace

What is all the french accents doing in safair aircraft?Where is the local crew?

Iznogood 18th Feb 2015 04:22

Local crews are in Bangui, Conakry, Monrovia, Niamey, Ndjamena, ...everywhere in eastern africa, but jobless local pilots on these plcaes are not complaining here.

I have asked that question... to many guys in SA looking for good flying jobs... but then lots of guys looking also for that $$$$

capster 18th Feb 2015 12:29

four engine jock 18th Feb 2015 12:46

Iam sure its costing them a pretty penny getting those French guys. Hotel/Perdiems/Euros/
why not pay the guys a good salary!!!

Knell 20th Feb 2015 07:19

maybe it s because they are better than you ?

BBH 20th Feb 2015 08:35

If SAFAIR is the same company as I know 20 years ago it is a French cargo company working in particular areas with ex french airforce crews.
May be it will explain french accent

four engine jock 20th Feb 2015 08:36

It isn't.

It's a long established South African company that specialised in cargo, medevac and charters for the SADF during the guerilla war, and to the Antarctic for the Navy. They have a few Hercs.

It has recently started LCC domestic scheduled passenger operations and seems to be doing quite well, I've flown on four flights in the last few months and I'm happy to report no trace of a French accent.

Indeed! Started off with ZS-GSK L100-20 in the 70's. A lovely aircraft to fly.

Ended up with 16 or 17 L100-30's, I cannot remember the exact figure; I brought ZS-JIZ across from Dobbins Air Force Base.

One of the best companies I had the privilege to work for.

cavortingcheetah 22nd Feb 2015 11:35

Had some 727s at one time too?

The Ancient Geek 22nd Feb 2015 13:09

ISTR the 727s were SAA surplus.
But ICBW.

opsmike 23rd Feb 2015 08:12

and a few B707's B737's and MD82's

cavortingcheetah 23rd Feb 2015 11:43

Didn't the MD82s belong to Sunair for whom Safair did the maintenance?

outabounds 27th Feb 2015 06:52

French

Apparently French post guys who are under the umbrella of ASL of which SAFAIR is to.
Helping out as the crews needed are more the training department can train at the moment, I guess they are growing fast, good news for SA pilots.:D

2efiss 27th Feb 2015 09:27

French registered L,382 leased from Safair.
These aircraft flew under name SFAIR, sometimed coming to JS for mainterenance at Safair.
