CRJ 200 bounce back?

Given the crash of oil prices and the near certainty that this will reduce jet fuel prices, surely this jet will come into contention again? The economics of flying it will certainly improve. Opinions, anyone?

The issue is a 40000 airframe cycle limit. After that your maintenance bill goes up significantly. The legacy of being designed on a business jet airframe.

But surely a lot of them can't have flown more then 25,000 hrs? With the finance management skills US carriers (especially) have, there could be useful life in such machines before 40K hrs?

And thanks for your response, Soap Box. I appreciate it:D

The oil price is unlikely to remain low.

The Saudis are using the oil price as a weapon against their neighbours who have been using high oil revenues to stir up regional conflicts. With their low production costs and enormous cash reserves they can sustain this for maybe a year, busting the bad guys.

Nobody with any sense is going to bet on the oil price remaining low for much more than a year.

Thanks for your views, The Ancient Geek. At this point I don't mind admitting that what's behind all this, is a soft spot for the Barbie Jet.
