Kenyan Fokker 50 freighter airstrip overrun in Somalia
 
Any further rumours about this Blue Bird Fokker 50.I understand it over ran the LDA and eing and engines dislocated.Props dislodged and spun away from the plane on landing.Hi speed go-homitis?

There's pictures floating around of it off the end of a gravel runway in sunny Somalia. Definitely off the end of a landing roll, skid marks in the gravel, engine and gear twisted off 90 degrees, also some damage to wing too. Aircraft intact but on its belly and one side fairly damaged.

Cockpit looks intact and no sign of fire. Registration of aircraft curiously not visible.

But other than briefly seeing the Picts... No further details Im afraid.

Bluebird. Crew ok.Awaiting a hearing by Tranport Ministry I suppose.I heard there was a brief fire under one of the wings near landing gear bay but put out by itself.

Why it hasn't made headlines till now don't know.I think Accident Investigation Dept is still unaware of the accident nor do KCAA...

At the risk of being very cynical - what Accident Investigation Dept? In Somalia? I don't think that such a thing exists.

And why would the KCAA even be interested in a crash in another country? They only get involved in local ones sometimes - foreign ones are WAY out of their jurisdiction.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but it qas a kenyan registered aircraft. I'd like to believe our regulator would take interest in a crash of an aircraft which they deemed airworthy operated by crew who they deemed competent.

Interestingly enough, this accident hasn't made it on any of the aviation sites including AVH.

Was 5Y-VVK at SOGUR (Guriceel, Galgaduud, Somalia) on Nov 10th 2011.

Sorry but its not a fail at all, nor an epic fail.

I know first hand of a plane from one country that inadvertently crashed over a border killing 4 people. Country #1 didn't want to know because it wasn't in their territory. Country #2 didn't want to know because the plane wasn't one of theirs. No-one investigated it, end of that sad story.

Airworthy or not, how will the Kenyan's get to the 'wreck' to investigate it? And does Somalia have an Air Accident Investigation Dept up and running? Where is the initial report on the incident - seeing as its more than a few days ago?

And no, Austrian Simon - that was an old prang, the one on this thread is recent. It seems to have happened about the 24th or 25th April

Foxcotte ...on what grounds is your thinking that Kenya's Accident investigation Dept. Shoukld have no interest?Annex ICAO 13?

Look ..precisley if Somalia has no AID Kenya , being the neighbourly state that it is should lemd its hand; especially so that it is a Kenyan Reg and Kenya licensed crews as kibs quoted. There have been several past accidents in Somalia wher Kenya was able to move in (albeit with a bribe) to retrieve the corpses and FDR.

Yes the accident is primarily the premise of the countryon which the accident took place and of the state of the aircraft manufacturer (Dutch in this case) but the state of registree is usually invited to the scene, especially if they can play a useful role in the ensuing investigation.

Why do you think Malaysian Transport Ministry was at the forefront in the MH370 even if it has not been declared as an accident until now?
