African experience
 

Dear all,

I'm a Commercial multi engine rated pilot with IR.
I have 230 total time and I'm fresh out of the Academy. I am now trying to gather as much information as I can about flying on the African continent. This forum has helped me alot and answered alot of questions but I feel that there is still one left unaswered. I bit my apologies already if this question has been answered in any other threads about African bush flying!
I am concentrating in the African region of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbawe, Tanzania and South-Africa. The question is the following:
How do international airlines look at pilots whom have gained there first couple thousand hours in Africa, flying for aviation companies that provide the typical bush type flying?
Are the airlines and corporate airlines positive about pilots who've flown in these conditions and with these aviation companies or are they rather hesitant in taking on pilots with this experience?
In short; How does your aviation future look after African Bush flying?
Once more, I'm sorry is this topic has been covered in other threads but I couldnt find any significant opinions, stories or facts about this..

I know many ex-botswana bush pilots flying for airlines in various forms around the world.

Most airlines these days couldn't care if you 200hr or 2000hrs. Pay for a type rating, pay for hrs, work for free and they will take you :yuk:

On the other hand you will learn to fly and survive in Africa. It will put hairs on your chest, you will make friends for life and witness some spectacular scenery. It's not all rosy but The life experience is priceless.

As you guys have seen, I'm new to PPRune, but I'm happy I got some nice replies!
I'm the only pilot in the family, so I do get support but for advice on aviation related topics I can't really rely on them.
As I start talking about flying in Africa, in general, I always get many questions thrown at me regarding the safety and quality of that type of flying, all with a hint of distrust and sarcasm.
Guys...don't worry... I can perfectly answer all these question as you already posted so much on these matters.
Only the previous asked question remained a little bit unclear for me, thank you for the replies! I hope to get many more!
