Nigeria Navy A109 crash:Public policy,confused
 

Where do we draw the line on use of public aircraft for private ends? Was the burial of Douglas' father, a public function? At what level should the privilege cease? Should it go all the way down to heads of Nigeria's public departments, corporations and agencies? Prez Jonathan lost his brother recently. Use of public aircraft for his needs on this occasion, presumably, was okay. But Douglas? What's his position in Government anyway? Questions reflecting poorly on why the crash itself occured. Bloody shame. And we can expect the usual BS from them by way of explanations. May those who passed away, R.I.P

The Helicopter was carrying General Azazi, a retired military man, former Chief of Defense staff and former Chief of Army Staff. I think he is entitled to be carried by the Helicopter.

Quite agree FLYDHC8, everywhere in the world. This is not the same as public officers abusing the powers given to them by acquiring expensive private jets for their own selfish interest.

Gen Azazi was an exceptional fellow compared to what we see these days in the military, civil service and political office holders.

Belawa and Flydhc8, the issue is that the helicopter didn't only fly Azazi and is reported by Eyewitness to fly up to Nine Sorties before the unfateful flight. No matter what position Gen Azazi (RIP) held in the Army/Gov. He was retired and the Aircraft was Acquired for Operational reason for the Navy alone and not airlifting VIP. I also complained when I saw our Super puma (NAF 565) airlifting other people during the President brothers burial, when troops in Places like durfur are lacking adequate airlift capabilities. And to the issue of the Navy....The lost 3/4 A109s in about 6 years in non training operations while the airforce has lost Non in about the same period. Guess their Airwing should be subsumed by that off the Airforce for awhile till they show they are capable enough to run an air operation wing.
