Dakota?

While the Dakota is an iconic aircraft, surely the medical team for Nelson Mandela could be flown in a more modern aircraft on a weekly basis?

There are probably many international companies who would welcome the opportunity to fly his medical team on a weekly basis and would be prepared to provide an executive jet for the purpose if the SAAF do not have a better aircraft available.

better aircraft
Many would say that there is NO better aircraft, when properly maintained.

Never a more true word spoken.

Or just fly around the berg instead of over it when the wx is not perfect.

Fuzzy Lager 6th Dec 2012 10:55

Indeed. It's sad how many aircraft have hit the Berg over the years. MORA/GRID MORA is a thing to respect.

trying to add images...

But I'm being thick. In FAQ it says this:

"To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page."

But I don't get a button labeled "manage attachments" at all. I get a collection of smileys, and a top bar that has an" insert images" option, but only from a URL.

So I can't upload the pictures. Sorry.

interesting report, with pix of crash site

There's a good article in the Times (SA) this morning, with a picture of the crash site and many more questions than answers.
