How easy/difficult to get at SAA with FAA certificates
 

As the title states, how difficult will it be for a non-South African to get hired by SAA with FAA certificates only?
What are their hire requirements, entry level A319/320?
Do they own any "regional carriers" that are used as a source for pilots?
A buddy is considering moving, what are his chances?

you need an Sa license .. not too difficult, just fill out some forms that you can download from the Sa Caa..
they require citizenship..... which means : get married with an Sa girl and wait few years....
plus if you are white you have to deal with BEE (Black empowerment bs) ... you can google it and find out more...
so if you're willing to get that job that's the checklist, dude

it's the equivalent of a non US citizen with non FAA licence trying to get a job at a major US carrier.

There is no shortage of pilots in many countries outside of the US.

Sorry, but this question is a bit arrogant and naive.

I think it is safe to say that your friend does not stand a snowballs chance. SAA rule the skies here, they are not called the skygods for nothing. However if he has a very large wallet, maybe he can help with their mounting debt in exchange for a special view of his credentials! :oh:

Sorry chap-That is something that just will never happen-guaranteed. I doubt if your friend is from the required background.:eek:

Basically, He has the wrong license, He is not a SA citizen and He is from the wrong ethnic back round!! Some people say that nothing is impossible if you work hard enough!! In this case they are wrong!!! Two of the three major factors here can be over come, however the third is where the door will firmly be shut in his face :ugh:
Sorry to sound so negative, but it is the same a South African wanting to join Delta without the AA policies of the ANC.

I tried to help a friend like that once. Nearly lost my own job over it! Poor guy is now an accountant but he is studying to become a civil engineer, (curbs and side-walks). His flight training investment of many tens of thousands of USD, and, his pride, gone. ATPL & type ratings just a hole in his wallet. His 7000+ hr Logbooks just sit on a shelf gathering dust. Last entry June 2006. An absolute shame.

The preferred ethnic background is an advantage , not a requirement.
I can proudly say , after seeing the latest seniority list , SAA is an equal opportunities employer.

Flying at SAA is truly the most amazing pilot job out there.
Most of the people on this forum don't have a clue as to what goes on.

There seems to be lots of new faces around and hiring will continue into 2013.

How can you use the words "advantage" and "equal opportunity" in the same sentence? If you think that SAA is an equal opportunity employer, you have you head as deeply entrenched in the sand as our esteemed government!!
Please don't try and insult our intelligence, there is nothing equal about SAA, Woolworths or most other businesses in South Africa!!! AA & BEE are not about equality.

I haven’t seen a Woolworths in decades and I think the last time I was actually in one was 1959. They still have Wollworths in SA?

Woolworths in SA is not the chain of cheapie stores it was in the US. They've positioned themselves as fairly upmarket, but have lately taken careful aim at their feet with certain policies regarding employment, much like the SAA cadet program. Same old crap, different flies.

The reason , and I'm sure you all know why , being from the preferred ethnic group is an advantage only because SAA , like Cathay , Air Mauritius , Kenya Airways , Egypt Air and most other legacy carriers have the right to hire whoever they please . Ideally a legacy carrier should represent every demographic equally.

Until this happens at SAA , which will take at least another 10 years to correct , a specific ethnic group will have an advantage. If anyone has a problem with that don't apply. Simple !

The airlines I mentioned above , except SAA, are all trying to replace expats with local pilots. Is this not something every legacy carrier should be doing ?

Provided of course the candidate is found suitable !

Having just given my 2 cents worth , SAA is still hiring candidates from all ethnic groups in South Africa. That's why I will say this again , SAA is an equal opportunities employer !

If anyone thinks I'm smoking my socks , ask one of your mates at SAA to show you the latest seniority list !!!
