Chad presidential aircraft landing mishap

The Chad government Beech 1900D TT-ABB suffered a landing mishap at Bir Kalait "airfield" (an unprepared desert strip) last week with President Idriss Deby and entourage on board. It appears the aircraft touched down early on rough ground before the runway, shearing off the landing gear. All prop blades separated, some impacting and entering cabin. No injuries reported.

Tongue in cheek remark: it would be interesting to see the media coverage if Air Force One blotched a landing, shorn off the gear and came to rest on its belly with the President on board... :E

I am shocked, shocked I say to find that Chad has a presidential aircraft, it's a BE-1900D and it crashed.

Red carpet in D'jamena, the president is going to fly

I flew for 2 months around Chad and i saw and suffered the presidencial aircraft. Everytime the president flies they close the airport one hour before the etd. And I remember in Abeche (one of the two paved rwy in that country) there was a Hercules C130 crashed 100 yards before the rwy (maybe you can still see this in Google maps ) and the locals said that was in a night app without rwy lights. I think the only Hercules they had lasted 5 or 6 months.

With all this, I'm saying that Chad is Africa and Africa has nothing to do with the rest of the world. Everytime you fly throug this continent ( except for Maroc, South Africa and not much more) is an adventure.

Regards from Spain and fly safe

That is why Africa needs pilots. In Europe you can fly with 250 hrs TT, knowledge of Part A, a bunch of SOP`s and a magenta line in front of you.

children of the magenta line

A Presidential Beech 1900D?

Surely Chad’s international benefactors could afford something a bit more, “presidential”, for the President of Chad, than just an old Beech 1900 with weak gear and sagging props. Who sold this junker to Chad anyway?

I.R.PIRATE 18th Nov 2012 21:52

Presidential 1900?

Then I wonder what the role of the 767 and BBJ that live in Jeddah, bearing what seem to be Govt of Chad ensignia are for?? Both TT reg when I last looked.

Temp Spike 19th Nov 2012 04:29

Monna Merday!!

767 & BBJ for Chad? Surely you are mistaken. Registration don't mean everything.

Pappa Delta 19th Nov 2012 07:48

Beech 1900 for the unpaved strips? Off road vehicle so to speak perhaps?

C130 & B1900D

Yep, I was in Abeche a month ago and the C130 has a family or two living in what's left of the remains. I tried to go over and take some pictures but they wanrned me I may get killed so I passed and took a long range pic. lol

The B1900D crashed shortly after I left but was going to return to train their pilots in it, guess that is why they haven't sent me my airline ticket yet. lol

The A/F people there are real nice and friendly and Gen. Mandjita is a good man, he runs that side of the airport joined with the French Mil people.

Abeche had no power or water for days/weeks when I was there this summer, real tough place to be/ work/ live. Not really looking to return there unless the whole show is changed but that is not going to happen.

I remember a while back the presidential aircraft was a G2. The president had the habit of trying to fly aircraft himself to impress his entourage and I am well aware he has run off the end of the runway on at least once before while trying to land an EMB110.

Temp Spike - oh fountain of knowledge....
