BBC nonsense again
 

"Ethiopian Airlines generally has a good safety record" reports the BBC rep in Addis today upon delivery of the 787.....utter rubbish. Fatalities per passenger mile are high at this African carrier; but the BBC continues reporting unresearched nonsense, "generally" in favour of poorer and downtrodden countries.

An unbiased news organisation would be more honest if asking how this blighted and impoverished war-torn country comes to afford 787's? (Probably mis-directed US aid)

Couldn't agree more. Ethiopian refused to accept the outcome of the report on their latest crash which killed all on board.

The statistics are skewed by the 767 hijack in 1996. Hardly Ethiopian's fault!

That aside, they have only had one major fatal crash, that obviously being the 737 in Jan 2010.

Statistics simply don't work at this level of event.

You sir, are inaccurate. ET has one of the best safety records for African airlines and some of the best in-house pilot training. The crash in the Comoros was one of the few "successful" water "landings" of a large aircraft and of itself had nothing to do with the aircraft.

Ethiopia currently has one of the highest economic growth rates on the continent.

It is all about resource allocation. If a poor countries government decides they want to have a good airline, they will. The Ethiopian government has done that from day 1.

Are you just coming on here to spout off on an African government or contributing something?

787 would actually be a great diversion of US Aid - both sensible investment for Ethiopian and money gets back to USA :D Much better than the usual burning of aid money into posh villas and fancy cars for corrupt politicians.

The ET 737 crash and the response from ET have indeed been appalling. Instead of coming clean and saying "sorry, we messed up, this what we have done to ensure similar crash will never happen again" they went on to deny the report and ANY wrongdoing from the fateful ET pilots or Ethiopian training organisation. :=

Hardly the movements of an airline with general safety issues. You guys need to do your homework. Ethiopian Has Grand Plan To Expand Maintenance Operation

Typical case of criticising an institution you know little or nothing about, wait till you hear them say you don't take criticism well.

It is true ET's denial and refusal to accept responsibility of the 738 accident was and still is in bad taste, but the fact is they are one of the safest operations around.

If you comb any used carpet with a toothbrush, you're sure uncover some dirt underneath. Given the circumstancial obstacles African carriers have to contend with, Ethiopian deserves to be commended for its present performance. No one is implying that it is a perfect Organisation. Most of the currently rated safest legacy carriers that have been in existence for over 40 years have experienced fatal accidents and hull loses. Every accident, though undesirable should be a learning experience to improve current levels safety by increased vigilance and resilient engineering.
