Air Namibia taking in new crew

That's the rumour going 'round. Apparently end of Feb 2012? Can anyone confirm?

TafelLager 8th Jan 2012 16:04

Now wouldn't that be nice? All other slots for the previously disadvantaged have been taken, so will be lekker if us who actually put in some hard work could get in as well. Fingers crossed!

707Lover 9th Jan 2012 18:59

Hi guys,
Can some of you give me the contacts for Air namibia for the 319 crew department.
Thank you in advance.

DaFly 10th Jan 2012 06:26

All A319 contract positions are filled and you would have to start as P3 A340 or P2 ERJ135.

But go ahead and try:
FleetCpt dot Reg at airnamibia dot aero

Good luck!

Nothing on their webpage, where did you find this info ? or it was "straight from the horses mouth" ?

Sammetje 15th Jan 2012 06:47

Poljot,

Do you have anything on the salary for FO a319? And the base will be windhoek or joburg while they're flying to accra from joburg... commuting possible?

DaFly 16th Jan 2012 06:06

Base is Windhoek. There are no JHB-Accra flights anymore. They are flying from Windhoek now.

I very much doubt, that there will be F/O positions at all.

captplaystation 2nd Feb 2012 13:18

They advertised for crews in Nov (Capt's & TRE's for 735)

I heard late & was told the Capts vacancies were filled, but a colleague who was up for assessment had it canx (they said delayed)

TRE job has remained open, & now Capts job advertised again. Does anyone know if they actually took Contract Capts last time around ? or this is the same vacancy "delayed"
As they only have 2 x 735's a bit strange to need folk again so soon. Suggests either , no-one taken last time, or the contract really sucks (doesn't sound this way on paper, money OK -ish & a commuting roster.)
Anyone know any more ?

DaFly 3rd Feb 2012 07:25

They have taken a couple of Captains & F/Os for the 735 from Zambezi. But the contract crews have just been told to move out of the hotel, recently. Don't know what the deal with regards to accommodation is.
The B737s are supposed to be phased out by November this year.

To all on PPrune.
Go and sign up to Register at Africa Aviation / Afrika Lugvaart
Much better for us African Aviators.

captplaystation 3rd Feb 2012 11:52

OK, thanks, the agency says now "Hotel provided and an accommodation allowance may be available in the future if you CHOOSE to instead find an apartment / alternative accommodation".

Not quite the same. . . . . . . . . . but then it often isn't

DaFly 5th Feb 2012 09:42

I think that bunch of contractors found that the hotel accommodation worked out a bit expensive: Air Nam only pays your accommodation for duty days, where you spend the night in Windhoek. If you overnight in JHB, CPT or Accra, your hotel room in Windhoek is not covered by Air Nam. I think the number of off days they pay your hotel room is limited, too.
In other words, you have to pack up and leave your room quite frequently or foot the bill yourself.
That is why they wanted to share a house. Apparently the house has been found, the allowance for accommodation was paid out, but the gentlemen stayed in the hotel.

One of those stories with at least 2 very different sides to it...

Phenom 7th Feb 2012 09:10

Well, I think they'll surely need more bus drivers, according to ''The Namibian'': the Namibian: AirNam buys 2 planes

ct2003 8th Feb 2012 12:33

The other way round: they will need less pilots as they will be replacing the 737-500s with A319: mixed fleet flying is supposingly on the doorstep (with A340) which ends up with a more flexible but smaller pool of pilots.

Phenom 8th Feb 2012 12:48

I thought their A340 crews were already flying max hours? How long would a transition to a full mixed fleet take them? Atleast one year given how slow they think up there... In my opinion, their ''regional pool'' could remain unchanged for now. Never mind the seniority/salary issues for long-haul flying...
