Private flying in Angola and Cameroon?
Not sure whether this belongs into the private or African forum:
I have job offers (non-aviation) for Luanda and Yaoundé and was wondering if there is any private flying (aeroclubs etc that rent out Cessnas / Pipers). I tried google but to no avail. Any input appreciated. Best, Holger |
Nothing yet in Yaoundé nor Douala anymore what a shame.

Nothing (yet) in Luanda, and I believe, in Angola, but still hoping:rolleyes:

How depressing! Here I am in New York, but without the time, and there I would have any time in the world but nobody to rent me an aircraft ...:ugh:
|
There might be some who have flown over and into Launda and Yaounde who would thank god for being in their corner in not providing an aircraft to have another crack at such a potentially dangerous enterprise.

Holger, I can't tell from your post whether you have actually been to Angola or Cameroon before? Operating commercially in those areas is difficult enough, to try to fly around in them privately would be an open invitation to all the corrupt uniforms to shake you down for every last one of your dollars. That's before you get airborne. Should you have the misfortune of getting airborne in your light piston you'd have to deal with downright dangerous ATC, the motley collection of eastern-bloc rustbuckets hurtling around without reporting where they are, zero search-and-rescue, the list goes on. Read the 'You know you're in Africa when..' -thread.
Sorry to be so negative, but CavortingCheetah is entirely right, unfortunately. |
There is also no Avgas availiable in Angola...
|
I have seen an angolan registred C172 flying in Luanda, and even doing banner towing! but it seems to be more like a paramilitary aircraft..could it be an air-club embryo after all these years of turmoil?
I don't have much infos about 100LL availability but occasional ferrying piston engines use to stop-over and probably refuel in Luanda, maybe is it on prior notice? or "mobgas" ? I'll try to know more about this when I'll be back there (next week !) "Peter PanPan" should know more for sure ;) |
Cavortingcheetah why are you being so harsh? Big European airlines fly there Air France Swiss SN Brussels British airways to name a few. Luanda is one of the most if not the most profitable route for AF.
