on the way to GABS, but different direction

hello african flyers!

On the way to GABS, but coming from a "new" direction....HECA. As Libyan airspace is not the best place to transit these days, I am thinking HECA-HSSS-FTTC-????-GABS.

Can anyone give me recent HSSS input. Last time I was there, I paid for fuel, filed a flight plan and went on my merry way. Now I hear they want to rip a new one with crazy handling fees.....avoidance tactics or is it just as corrupt as Egypt now? Overnight in FTTC?

Suggestion as to a good stop between FTTC and GABS? Was looking at DRRN, but it is a bit lopsided towards GABS....something more midway would be nice, but where is good these days?

Any input appreciated!

Thanks!

With the near total halt of any tourism in Cairo right now, HECA airport authorities are making the most of the small number of aircraft passing through there now.

You need the follow me car, four times during any stop....even to take you from Hall 4, stand 4, to RWY 05L.....all of 60 m that the vehicle drives.:}

To Gabs

Hi, I assume the GABS is Gaborone?
You didn't mention what aircraft you'll be taking (Jet A1 or Avgas can be an important factor?). Also what range are you looking at between stops?

I haven't been to Khartoum recently (2007) but it wasn't worse than most other African airports (lots of patience needed as ever!).

Depending on your range a more direct route could be Khartoum - Kigali (excellent just a few months ago) - Ndola (haven't been for a few years but fairly quiet and no hassle). Those are all 6-700 Nm legs.

Otherwise, although a bit off track, Djibouti is painless or Lokichogio (Sudan/Kenya border), Kilimanjaro (watch out for big hills!) or if you're passing drop into Maun for a cold beer!

Hope this helps - cheers!

Hi

I trust you are well.

GABS Bamako Mali

I hear HSSS are not liking overnight stops at the moment.

Last time I tried FTTC......

You could prehaps consider Morocco/Algerian routing....

Not sure where you are coming from so above routing may not be OK.

DRRN Niamey Niger is OK.

Cheers
