737 Jobs in Africa?
 
Hi mates!!

I am currently flying the B737 and would like to get some hints about where could I apply for a job in Africa. I bet flying there must be a really nice and challenging experience!! :ok:

I have 2700 hours flight time, of which more than 2500 on the 737 (300, 400, 500 & 800NG series). What do you guys think about my chances of getting a job there?

Which countries would you recomend me to consider?

BTW, I have a JAR ATPL licence... so I wonder about how does it generally work in Africa to get it validated...

Why would you want to come and work in Africa?:confused: You will most probably end up fly derelict machines in the Congo for example, or end up not having been paid for the past 3 months? Staying in a place like Lagos or Kinshasa, which is absolute sˆ*t holes..!:yuk: With a Jar etc and the ratings you have, rather go to Easy Jet etc! Just my half cents worth!

Malagant you should avoid talking crap they don't even have 737's in congo but in quite a few countries in Africa now we have NG's like Cameroon for instance they were recruiting not long ago for the 700 and 800 then you have the major carriers but I believe they prefer nationals. But you still have plenty of carriers using the classic.
And one more thing Malagant Easyjet hires cadets OR experienced AIRBUS A 320 captains. Not Boeings...

No 737's in Congo!!! What about TAC?
DC8 try the pilot job sites or search for pilotpointer. Like the DC8 name there!

When last were you in the Congo 737-NG, TAC uses 737-200s, and there are many operators in Africa that still do, maintenance is shoddy etc, if you don`t know what goes on here in Africa don`t shout your mouth off, and I know expat South Africans that were flying 737-700 at EasyJet, I am merely giving an example of what one might get into here in Africa. Just read the posts on African Airlines that owe money to crews etc, so why don`t you go talk crap at some sidewalk cafe..:yuk:

737-200 that's the key word I believe the thread was about a guy who has flown CLASSICS and NG's not the OLD 200 ones isn't that right? I mean who would wanna fly a 1960's aircraft anyway, even if maintenance were good, be it in Africa or aywhere else? Now some operators, especially in Nigeria do have a tendancy to not pay on time, but not all of them. You can't put 'em all in the same basket.

And by the way Easyjet used to operate classics and they only have 3 737-700's left due to leave by the end of this year anyway. The whole fleet is now A-319's so no use there. As for other LCC Ryanair only takes on 200 hours F.O.s willing to pay 30000 euros for a type rating worth about half... just my two cents...

My my, look at all the testosterone flying around here... An innocent question inquiring about Boeing 737 jobs in Africa...Here we come with definitions of NG's.... The 737-200 is not a Classic, it's now called "Original", but I guess you knew that....

TRY AIR NIGERIA/AERO/ARIK preferably in that order.Arik been the least preferable,though an NG operator they seem to have teething financial issues.The formers are classic operators,expanding.These three based in Nigeria.Also try ASKY based in TOGO,an NG operator.

DC 8, a friend of mine is Capt with Ethiopian Airways on the 757/767 and they are looking for 73 NG crew, either rated or prepared to fund your own rating. Based in Addis Ababa, 6 weeks on and 10 days off. Not sure about the salary but you get paid extra if you fly more that certain amount of hours a month. Check their website and get in touch with them! Good luck:ok:

You are right pal I don't have an ICAO level 4 English only level 6 born in Africa raised in the US of A and living in Europe now I fear you must have forgotten your glasses before actually reading and understanding the posts.

Nanga is right those Nigerian airlines have good 737 fleets and with your time on type you should be allright. Asky only has rwo NG's but they are expanding quite quickly adding new routes just about every month. Good if you speak some French and if you do you can always try Camair co (even though we are past deadline I know they still accept cv's and the package is really good for expats, better than even many middle east carriers no kidding) we just received a 737-700 plus a 738 coming soon. Plus I know of some operators in S.A. but you should ask guys living down there coz i believe most airlines require you to have south african licenses and passport which is a big bumer...:oh:

hi 737-NG, im currently based in lome, but still looking for some contacts in lagos if possible to fly as f/o on b737, unfortunatly not lucky to work with Asky, im 737NG type rated but no hour on type, but have total time of 5,800h on wich 1,200h on b737-200, if you have any info please...

I seem to remember you from another thread aren't you from Benin? Sorry but even know I am from neighbouring cameroon I have no clue about how the situation is right now in Nigeria. Personally I would avoid the 200 like the plague but if you feel like it maybe you should look outside the continent i know some operators especially cargo were looking for crew in Asia but it's becoming rare.

Sorry about that it's weird since you fit the requirements but i was hinted that since directing board is european they hired only european license holders even locals had problems meeting the requirements and those ex camair pilots even had to write to the Prime Minister to complain...
