Thanks andy

Any more details on how to apply? and is it open for all or locals only?

darkroomsource 14th Jan 2011 08:33

Nope.
I looked them up, and can't find any more information. Was hoping someone else had more information. I'm thinking of dropping by in Feb and asking what's up.

soakingpilot 14th Jan 2011 12:23

yeah if anyone knows of any way that I can apply. I am in Botswana and there is a whole bunch of nothing going on but I could certainly jump over there if I could get a application in.

Alexander87 14th Jan 2011 16:15

I'll follow you on the jump.....the requirements taste like chocolate!!!!

I am in Botswana and there is a whole bunch of nothing going
THAT'S WHY I PUT IT UP HERE GUYS
I'm coming in 2 weeks, and want to have a chance, so I'm looking for all the possibilities.
I read this on another board, posted it here cuz I know most of the pilots who're in Bots read this board, so ...
According to the site, there are phone numbers, do any of you have phones?

Aside: If you buy a disposable cell phone with prepaid minutes in Bots, is it good in Nam, SA, Zambia, Madagascar, or do you have to get a different phone for each country?

Also, just read a thread that listed a handful of companies in Zambia that hire (or at least used to hire) low time pilots - according to the thread, which was 2007 or 2008, they were taking CPL for minimum, any number of hours. EDIT: The thread is here on PPRuNE

Some more info

I was enquiring about Malawi also and got this info hope this helps and brings a new name to the search to the ones in bots - Tanzania.

Hi Harry!

It is a catch 22, isnt it?
We used to take on 200h pilots some years ago. Then it was different. There are several issues with low time pilots: Lack of practical flying experience (weather), Insurance problems, are just some of them. From a business perspective it is just not worth the trouble to employ low time pilots.........
In Kenya foreigners are NOT welcome. Tanzania seems to be better. Malawi is VERY small in terms of aviation. Zambia requires 1000h for a commercial validation, dunno about private licence, ..

So,
you guys that are in Maun now need to convince some of the guys who've been there for 2 years or so, and have 1500+ hours, to go over to Malawi and Zambia.....

lilflyboy262 16th Jan 2011 11:32

Or, after they have finished, they go home to bigger and better things :ok:

Tobitree 10th Feb 2011 12:21

Only local pilots to be hired

After calling the offices in Madagascar, I am sorry to have to tell you that they will for the near future only hire national citizens of Madagascar. :(

Anybody getting different information?

Puppeteer 10th Feb 2011 15:47

Only nationals

Heard the same thing.. But I can't see that there's a lot of pilots in Madagascar, although I may be wrong..

Puppeteer 10th Feb 2011 18:45

Heard through the junglevine: King Julian is short of pilots, apparently the penguins aren't making the grade...........http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ies/thumbs.gif
Yeah, and they don't like french speaking cheese smelling frog eaters.. :}

Maybe if you're seriously charming, speaks french and have Twin-otter time you can hassle your way in, in all other cases I believe you're dead in the water..

Seaplane first officer

Hey just wondering does air Madagascar operate seaplanes? are there any seaplane company's in Madagascar that hire low time first officers? thanks guys.

sierra.papa 31st Jul 2012 10:40

Hi guys,

After Air Madagascar posted the job offer, they went into the European black list. All recruitments were cancelled. And the problem is still not solved; they are using aircraft registered in France (former Air France A340) to fly to Europe.

The policy of the company is to give advantage to local citizens, like most of the African countries, but it is not what happens in the reality. You need strong connections to get hired.

Oh joy, cant wait for that one. Pack your vas there guys.

Hi guys,

I'm working in Zambia. They finally dropped the requirement for 1000 hours but will only issue you a validation until you've been flying for 1 or 2 hundred hours in country. So getting jobs has become easier again but getting type rating becomes the issue. So don't bother showing up without a rating on at least one of the company your looking at's aircraft.

Otherwise there are good opportunities in Zambia as it's all twin or turbine really. Malawi is good but any job vacancies disappear very quickly.
