From Parker007:

is hiring done for this season?
Clearly shaken not stirred :ugh:

The 'season' finished months ago. Why do you not read the thread properly before asking such a silly question?

cavortingcheetah 4th Dec 2011 13:44

I would have thought that a bush flying course is quite a waste of money unless you can do it in the equivalent of Universal Studios with all the instantaneous and variable special effects of the elements and the animals that one finds in Africa. I wouldn't have thought that the Namibian pilot is correct although it might have worked out for him hoodwinkwise. What defines a flight simulator, as in a three axis full motion machine, and what defines an instrument flight training simulator, as in a comfy chair and a screen that flaps around the horizon, could be two different concepts? Perhaps that's a reflection on aviation and safety in Maun? Too many MM simulator hours and not enough actual ones? Would a C206 type rating and no experience on type give you an edge? Others may be able to clarify that point for you? You could take the opportunity to self teach some tricky weight and balance examples including density altitude considerations. I wonder if it would impress at an interview if you demonstrated that you kew your way around a performance take off and landing graph, the very thought, WAT an idea!

Csanad007 4th Dec 2011 14:11

No Hungarians in the Maun nights at the moment... Although been there done that, but never got the T.

billyballo 5th Dec 2011 15:42

hello guys anybody knows how many pilots are now in Maun looking for a job???
thanks so much

duncanidaho50 5th Dec 2011 18:30

when to go

Would 1st of February be to late to try to get a job in Bost and Namibiaż?

I.R.PIRATE 5th Dec 2011 20:01

The 'bush flying' course, has nothing of real value to the prospective Maun pilot.

While you might learn a few handling techniques that will equip you for one or other situation in life, it is very far from what is required to flyin Maun.

Maun is regarded as bush flying only because there is bush around. You don't really fly in it.

Spend the money on a rating and maybe a few hours on type.

ctgullwing 6th Dec 2011 07:52

About 15 guys around at the moment..

Won2Go 10th Dec 2011 01:26

15 guys and one girl!

scarrymike 10th Dec 2011 03:52

All sixteen with Instructor ratings?

Exascot 10th Dec 2011 07:27

15 guys and one girl!
I wondered when someone was going to correct that :)

Good luck to you all it is interesting times here.

cavortingcheetah 10th Dec 2011 10:06

Snow White and the Fifteen Dwarves? Then February 14th would be more advantageous for a newbie job seeker than February 1st perhaps?

Pinante 11th Dec 2011 16:40

One more to add to the 16...

Hello guys,

I´m going to Maun in January and I need your opinion to decide what transport to take from Johannesburg to Maun.

I'll arrive in Johannesburg airport and I'm thinking on taking a taxi to the International Bus Station where I can get a bus to Maun. Would that be dangerous for a guy with a backpack? Can anyone give me schedules of the buses or a link to it?

The other possibility is the airplane, but that will cost more money and that is a rare thing now days...

Thank you all

kukijeans 11th Dec 2011 16:58

Maun Self Drive 4x4 Miscellaneous Page of Essential Information - Maun Self Drive 4x4

See this page for details.

Pinante 12th Dec 2011 10:50

Thank you for the info.
Another thing... I'll need an entry permit in South Africa and Botswana. I'll get the South African visa at the airport, where can I get the visa for Botswana if I travel by Express? At the border?

propcowboy 12th Dec 2011 11:45

@Pirante: at the border

billyballo 12th Dec 2011 13:54

CharlieVictorSierra 13th Dec 2011 04:27

heading to Maun too in jennuary, how many pilot there?? and more important....... how many bush pilot position still open??
Oh for pity sake...your question and answer are barely even a page back!

If you cant take two minutes to read and if those questions are the most important to you then dont bother going to Maun, you're wasting your time. Its astonishing...:ugh:

Exascot 13th Dec 2011 06:11

Billyballo:

how many pilot there??
He asked the same question on the 5th Dec and got an answer. Obviously doesn't even read answers to his own posts. He will stand out like a sore thumb here in 'jennuary' - can't wait

cavortingcheetah 13th Dec 2011 06:32

Were comments from pilots ever published alongside supposed words of praise from clients in the publicity brochures the inescapable conclusion would be that there could shortly thereafter be no more passengers to comment, all tourists having run for the hills. The evidence grows greater daily to support the contention that the putative pilot of today is nothing of the sort and is as competent to be a button pusher in an aircraft as a security guard is to be sufficiently innovative and intelligent to be a bank robber.

Avikay55 13th Dec 2011 07:44

Brilliant! Could not be explained and laid out better! Excellent!

billyballo 13th Dec 2011 13:38

No man...you are clearly very mistaken! Your lack of reading skills and just general lack of research (and yes your questions were answered less than a page back) is what people were eluding to. You are displaying a child-like attitude and I look forward to hearing if you actually find a job anywhere on this CONTINENT not country! (wahahahahahahaha) :D How about you dont waste your time in Maun or anywhere else in Africa for that matter and find a job on your own continent?!?

Maun is better without you anyway...definately a superb talent and awe inspiring personality lost for the good people of Maun here. Sorry guys.

Maybe people just dont have the energy to respond to your pathetic posts...or maybe they do indeed have jobs!!!

billyballo 13th Dec 2011 14:37

hahahaa i am sorry for you man but actually i am flying, not so much but i am flying , i am just looking a new job that make me fly more hours but if everybody there are top gun like you is better if i dont leave my actually job

Good luck Maverick:cool:

propcowboy 13th Dec 2011 14:38

Awesome fun. Getting from Rumour Network to Humour Network.

billyballo 13th Dec 2011 15:02

best of luck everybody

ernguru 13th Dec 2011 18:07

As this is meant to be the essential guide and not a mud slinging competition, let me add some advice. Mahube express as advertised on the Maun self drive 4x4 link no longer operates a bus service from Joburg to Maun. The way to get there by bus is to catch Intercape from Joburg to Gabs, spend the night in Gabs in a B&B and then be at the bus station at 05:30 the following morning to catch the bus to Maun. Its slow and noisy but its CHEAP

Pinante 13th Dec 2011 21:59

Thank you ernguru but...

I was searching for the Intercape bus station in Johannesburg but I only found a bus stop... Did not I researched well? A bus stop in Johannesburg is not a good ideia for a guy with all his "life" in the back, don't you think? I don't mind to be unconfortable, with noise or dust during the journey to Maun but it would be bad for the dream to end before I even try.

Doesn't anyone is heading from Johannesburg to Maun on the 2nd week of January that could give me a ride (sharing expenses of course)?

lilflyboy262...2 13th Dec 2011 23:03

@ Pinante, a 30 second search of the intercape website showed up where to go.

Depart From JOHANNESBURG - Intercape Office, Park City Transit Centre, Johannesburg Station
To GABORONE - Intercape Office, Kudu Shell Service Station, Queens Road

Hell I even have GPS co-ordinates for you. GPS: 26.197072S 28.041079E

Intercape Bus Stop Information: JOHANNESBURG

ImaginedByGod 14th Dec 2011 00:40

haha! the GPS coordinates! LMAO

cavortingcheetah 14th Dec 2011 06:35

If you get lost even when navigating between ground positions then here is some useful information to help you in the event of a walk out following a forced lob in the bush.
How To … Survive Going to the Toilet in the Bush | Plan Your Safari
Better pack a compass in the flight bag as well as paper, water and wet wipes.

propcowboy 14th Dec 2011 07:24

Awesome :)
By the way, would like to remind everyone to take hairspray with him/her (best would be a hairspray dispenser built into a Leatherman...)

Exascot 14th Dec 2011 10:03

Mahube express as advertised on the Maun self drive 4x4 link no longer operates a bus service from Joburg to Maun.
Thank you for that info. It was a relatively new service, surprised it didn't work out.

luangwablondes 14th Dec 2011 10:46

Mahube Express (JHB-Maun) is out of service. They are trying to change its loading bay from Fleet Africa to Park station, and currently are waiting on a response from Park station management.

Pinante 14th Dec 2011 15:45

@ lilflyboy262...2

Of course I found the "Intercape" site, but I thought that it was only a bus stop on the road. I didn't realise that the back buildings in the picture were actualy the station... I'm sorry for my misunderstanding!

I know that many people that use this forum ask questions without making any effort to look for the answers by themselves, but you can not forget that we all come from diferent places, with diferent experiences, and things that are common to you, can be uncommon to me and vice-versa.

As for the GPS coordenates... well... thank you very much but I don't have a GPS. I'm betting everything on this small oportunity so the gadgets must wait.

If I get a job in Maun I'll be for ever grateful for this forum (your forum) and for all your investment in it, but please don't lose the perspective...

nitrak 18th Dec 2011 22:35

Hi mate !!

I was looking tickets, and from budapest I found prices about 400-500 euros one way and about 620 return. Think about it :ok::ok:

B737Dude 3rd Jan 2012 17:37

Hoping to come down to Botswana in mid February, Will there be jobs still going at that time of the year or am I too late for this year?

BrendanWilliamson 5th Jan 2012 07:45
