We are all stupid and we dont have balls to face the management and tell them what we are facing :(
Few pilots got type rated from the rj to the bus, others from the Q4 to the beast, they cant talk.

FAA and IOSA

Salaries are 1.5 to 2 months late.

There's an FAA review going on at the moment, do they care that this company doesn't pay staff on time?

How about IOSA? There is also an audit coming up in May.

TonyWilliams 5th Apr 2014 13:08

Absolutely, IATA / IOSA cares if the staff is paid on time, since that can become a safety issue.

The FAA, not so much. There's no law that says anything about pay at airlines.

I know there were successful efforts to extract money from these pigs by petitioning the port of New York, who handles JFK airport. I believe a formal lien was slapped on the Airbus when it landed there, and Arik had to pay to release the plane.

I know another pilot who took the tech log and only released it when paid.

With all the time sitting around belly aching about payday at Arik for years, and all the pilots and other staff, suppliers, governments, etc, that Arik owes money to, I know there are ways to get paid and move on.

You have to fight fire with fire. Most pilots, however, are just lap dogs who will take whatever they get.

Aren't pilots stupid?:ugh:

Fishpie, did you mean Arik pilots?

NaijaNinja 6th Apr 2014 20:05

Classic idea

I know another pilot who took the tech log and only released it when paid.
If only all pilots can get away with this tactic to reclaim any money owed to them. Do this to Arik few times, maybe they will wake up. The guy who got away with it is certainly not a stupid Arik pilot, no?

With all due respect I think you indulged in a bit of this and then left the company. Nothing wrong with this.

However it is a bit unkind to say this:

Most pilots, however, are just lap dogs who will take whatever they get.
Most expat pilots are at Arik Air because of the 30/30 commuting contract (you were on a much worse contract of 56/28) and only remain because such a contract is virtually unobtainable anywhere else.

Regarding the pay situation. Arik have done and still do push the boundaries on what is reasonable. Some pilots however do apply a bit of pressure to keep Arik 'honest' - seems to work.

Hope you are well.

TonyWilliams 7th Apr 2014 03:17

Yes, I belly ached for two years about the pay and numerous other issues related to working at Arik Air. I'm not excluding myself from the obvious (pilots are lap dogs and will suffer almost any abuse to fly planes).

I'm proud to say that I got all my money, and then some, when I left. Yes, I missed the 30 on / 30 off rotations, but I did sign the form as the very last thing I ever did at Arik.

I flew into Lagos after my 28 day rotation in October 2010, but I was actually on my way to a new job in the Middle East. I took a taxi cab over to the office, collected up any local cash I could (and got lucky with two months worth waiting for me, and it was available!!), and as I was walking out with my pockets full after my short 30 minute visit the Q400 fleet manager came running out.

He had me sign the new 30/30 rotation, and even got me a photocopy of it. I was on an Emirates flight to Dubai within an hour and never looked back. The only way I could have done it better is to have left an airplane at an out station as my last flight. I do regret not enacting that option.

Disclosure: I'm the guy who started this thread as "Oba1kanobe".

:ok:

The unveiling of the unknown soldier aka Oba1kanobe, what a revelation!

You led the way with this legendary thread and finally walked the talk, good job.

After 8 years the situation remains the same.....

NO CHANGE !!!!!!!

Salaries still 2-3 months late and all other payments (expenses) overdue by 12-18 months.:ugh:

30/30 is there though:ok:

But NO PAY:eek:

If you can deal with it ....good for you.....if not dont come here :=

Oba1kanobe 16th Sep 2016 03:49

It's been a while since I've used this account, so 6 years after I left Arik Air, I thought it might be nice to commemorate the occasion of... Pay Day at Arik Air.

Masteroftheplane 15th Jan 2017 22:06

Good morning to all of you.

Please be adviced, Arik "wings of Nigeria" does not pay salaries from August 2016, they are looking for new fools (sorry, I meant pilots) to work in any position, any fleet, if you are willing to work for free or even "I WILL FLY FOR FOOD" please come and join us.

Thanks and have good flights (not in Arik)

Winding up Petition

Essentially a list of pilots that didn't get paid for their services. A list to which I have added my name after an unsuccessful attempt to recover my losses via an individual action. A class action is the way forward. They are giving away free tickets, celebrating 10 years and still not paying the crews.

The Ancient Geek 5th Feb 2017 12:35

Chances are that they will find the money from somewhere to settle the petition before the hearing. There is no escape, if the money is not in the court in cleared funds before the hearing ARIK is toast. If they owe you get your name on the petition.

Nigeria government takes over Arik Air

Posted at 15:22
Nigeria's government has taken over the country's biggest airline Arik Air, which has been experiencing financial difficulties in recent times.
A statement confirming the takeover says it was meant to bring stability to the country's aviation industry:
The move... clearly underscores the government’s commitment to instilling sanity in the country’s aviation sector and prevent a major catastrophe

and

Arik Air 'was overwhelmed'

Posted at 16:11
Nigeria's government has been giving reasons taking over Arik Air, the country's biggest privately owned airline.
In a statement, it said:
For some time now, the airline, which carries about 55% of the load in the country, has been going through difficult times that are attributable to its bad corporate governance, erratic operational challenges, inability to pay staff salaries and a heavy debt burden, among other issues, which led to the call for authorities in the country to intervene before Arik goes under like many before it.

The myriad issues confronting Arik Air of late range from confiscation of aircraft due to non-payment of leases, frequent flight delays, constant fracas between Arik staff and irate passengers at both local and international airports etc.

I shall make no comment about the governments ability to restore sanity in anything.

Evanelpus 10th Feb 2017 12:12

Mwhaha, ha ha ha ha! That's made my Friday.:D

They are bigger crooks than the ones running Arik at present. Only in Nigeria!!:ugh:

Just getting back onto my chair.
