SAX to begin DRC operation

SA Express is proud to introduce new regional airline Congo Express which will begin operating on 1 February 2010, providing a much needed air service between Lubumbashi, Kinshasa and Mbuji Mayi. This new airline is a joint venture and collaboration between established Congolese business, BizAfrika Congo and SA Express, one of the fastest growing regional carriers on the continent.

Congo Express is set to flourish as an extension of the recently re-launched SA Express brand, which aims to offer customers a bespoke, seamless travel experience. Siza Mzimela, CEO of SA Express says: “SA Express is proudly positioned as the premier intra-regional African brand. Our airline’s long-term strategy is to transform air transport in the region - stimulating markets, developing hubs and providing those all important links between lucrative destinations. If you think SAX management is that STUPID to get involved with one of the most Screwed up places in the WORLD, they get what is comming to them

Theres plenty of money to be made in DRC............it will not be easy, and crew's will have to be strong to keep it safe, nonetheless expansion is good for everybody!!!

Interesting! There were several DRC companies operating on those routes when I was last in the DRC. Flights seemed to be fairly frequent and they seemed to be doing a good job. What has happened to them? How come a South African company can offer a domestic scheduled air service in the DRC?

SAX apparently will own 49% of a new Congolese Company Congo Express, which will initially use SAX aircraft and crew.

Wonder what IATA thinks about this since you cant have code share and hold and AOC that is not IOSA certifide.

I don't think IATA will have too much to say. Flights take place under SAX flight numbers, in SAX owned aircraft, operated by SAX crew, maintained by SAX engineers and ZS registered with the SACAA.

In short, it is not a code share operation - It is SAX in all but name.
