Hi there,

I am 15 and wanting to persue a career in aviation. I've been looking at my options and the SAAF definately looks like a route to take.

Just wanted to find out a few things from some present of ex SAAF pilots.

1)Would you recomed the airforce over private flying, ie: is it worth it?
2)What are the flying hours like? Wanting to stay with fixed-wing.
3)I have heard that a minimum contract is 10 years is this true?
4)The Pilatus PC7 is the basic trainer (is this correct)? What is the likely route after the Pilatus?

Any answers much appreciated

Cheers

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me on these three questions,

1) What is the length of the contract plan in the SAAF?
2) What is the accommodation like? Where do you stay during training, after training, etc?
3) I understand that the selection process is quite something, and they only want the best of the best, the question is, will having a PPL put me in a better posistion?

Cheers any help is much appreciated

I suggest you look at The South African Air Force and search the various topics under Recruitment on The SAAF Forum (The SAAF Forum • Index page).

You will find most of the answers to your questions there.
